Government House is the residence and office of the Governor of Victoria. A Vice Regal office bearer is the representative of the Head of State. Government House is stately; most Victorians will never see inside.

Visited Australia Day weekend. Made the mistake of thinking we could walk through Botanical Gardens to enter. You can't! Enter only from St Kilda Road. The few rooms that were open for viewing were nice, the ballroom especially. We found the grounds to be the nicest. The veggie patch and tennis courts and stables etc.

Government House is quite an impressive sight. It dates to the 19th century and is the official residence of the Governor of the state of Victoria. Worth a look if you can manage it!

Government House is not far from the centre of Melbourne, near the Shrine of Remembrance. Government House is open for inspection regularly. It is a fine example of Victorian craftsman ship. Tours of Government House, combined with Latrobe's Cottage, are held twice a week. It is well worth a taking a look.

It was tiring standing in the queue for an hour. We almost gave up but I'm glad we didn't. It was a thrill to wander around this wonderful piece of British grandeur - albeit a fairly limited tour. The major features being the grand ballroom with it's regal throne and the beautifully dressed dining room, which was set for about 50 guests. Also saw some of the grounds and the stable area, which alone is worth a visit. A well organised, self-guided tour through the Governor's residence.

It's a complete waste of time visiting normally as it's hidden behind a fence and a front gate, you hardly even catch a glimpse of the house. Don't bother to visit unless its an open day when they let people in.

Government House is the office and residence of the Governor of Victoria. It is a Regency style building, which replaced the pre-fabricated house erected when La Trobe was Lieutenant Governor. As the seat of government, Government House has always played an important symbolic role in the government of Victoria, although legally its role in the day-to-day government is restricted to giving advice and signing legislation.
