I've just finished a group walk on beautiful Lord Howe Island. What a magic place! Our group leaders Marie and Katie made the whole experience one to remember. Their organization and encouragement were first class. Nothing was too much trouble. The walks were great, the scenery amazing and the accommodation and food to die for walk. This was my first Auswalk but I. Sure it won't be my last.

We walked the Great Ocean Walk as a self-guided 7 day trip arranged by Auswalk in April. It wasn’t our first Auswalk trip, and it won’t be our last! The Great Ocean Walk traverses from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles, along cliffs, beaches, through eucalypt forests, coastal scrub, fern glades and grass tree plains. The variety of ecosystems is amazing, and the different wildlife in each (lots of koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, and bird life) really special to see. Although the track can be done in 5-8 days with camping along the way (even less by the crazies who choose to walk 30km+ a day!) we chose the 7-day option with the accomodation and catering logistics taken care of by Auswalk, so we could carry only a light day-pack and slow down and enjoy it. An average day was around 15-16km, with a couple of days slightly shorter and one longer one (20km). It isn’t a difficult walk for anyone with basic fitness, though there are a few ups and downs, and some previous multi-day experience and suitable worn-in footwear would be a good idea to avoid sore muscles and blisters. Auswalk arranged all our accomodation and catering as well as transport to and from the track as a package, and we were really happy with all aspects. We stayed in the simple but very atmospheric Cape Otway Lighthouse and a couple of boutique B&Bs, all comfortable and conducive to relaxing after each day’s walk. The food supplied by each host was fabulous - every meal was generous, nutritious and delicious. The daily walking notes were comprehensive and added value by providing extra information regarding history, ecosystems and wildlife along the way, and were up to date and accurate, so no worries about getting lost! Local knowledge and information shared by our lovely transport driver and our accomodation hosts offered further insights into this beautiful area. We have walked a few of Australia’s classic tracks (The Overland and others in Tassie, the Larapinta, parts of the Australian Alps Track in NSW and VIC) as well as some classic hikes overseas, and the Great Ocean Walk really ranks highly up there. It’s a fabulous walk through pristine Victorian country, and Auswalk take care of the background stuff, so all you need to do each day is get up and get dressed, eat, walk, repeat, relax, sleep, repeat! For those who’d like the logistics sorted out for them and no heavy camping pack to carry, I really recommend Auswalk.

Auswalk has put together a great walking experience in the iconic Blue Mountains. Fantastic scenery, a solid walking challenge each day but not too tough, excellent accommodation, including in the historic Carrington Hotel in Katoomba. Each day was well paced and left time for a bit of sightseeing along the way. Responsive friendly staff. Good track notes.
