If only I lived closer to the Astor Theatre, I swear I would be there every night instead of only the occasional visit like last night when I went to see legendary 80's cult movie Class of 84. The Astor is a step back in time when the world moved at a slower, more genteel pace. Not only is it... More

I went to the Astor as a surprise to watch Purple Rain. I haven't been in maybe 15 years to the Astor. Everything is still the same in original condition. Art Deco. It's a really cute experience old leather uncomfortable chairs, but still great. I recommend the banana ice creams soooo good. It nearly closed down a few years ago... More

No better place to watch a movie. Yippee Ki-ay Mother******! (As Bruce Willis AKA John McClane might say in any of his Die Hard films!)

This place is straight out of the archives. Retro is everywhere and I think that is what it survives on. I found the sound quality to be a little average but they are not known for their high tech presentations. There tends to be a fair amount of older movies shown so maybe it was the quality of the movie... More

Am Amazing place, a step back in time, wonderful films at a great price for twin shows. We must support and keep The Astor alive. We've nearly lost it a few times. I've even enjoyed it as a lounge with drinks and a snack. Dress up - it's a great night or afternoon out! Take your drinks into the theatre!... More

For many years The Astor Theatre at 1 Chapel Street, St Kilda has advertised itself as providing "Fine films and atmosphere". That's certainly the case. It's Melbourne's only remaining single screen theatre and shows an eclectic selection of films, recent releases and older films from the vast film library available to them. It's one of the few cinemas to be... More

This is a wonderful cinema experience. My partner and I treated ourselves to a double bill on a Saturday night in December. I work in the cinema industry in the UK and we have nothing like this at home. The theatre was full of all kinds of people - families, teens, adults, older people and the atmosphere was electric, everyone... More

Watched 'The Hateful Eight' in 70mm here and it was awesome! The theatre itself is super cool/authentic, great atmosphere, great old cinema experience! You can buy usual cinema food and very friendly staff!

A classic retro cinema with good viewing of old favourites in double features. We saw double monty Python. Lots of fun and great value. Lovely decor and atmosphere. You can buy alcoholic drinks, coffee or typical candy bar snacks and take in with you. We will be back.
