King's Domain is a landscaped garden, taking in an expansive area of 90 acres (36 ha). In contrast to the rest of the Botanic Garden, which is characterized by mature trees and sweeping lawns, the area between the Government House Reserve and King's Domain is lavishly carpeted with flowers for most of the year. The decorative blooms are a feature of the King's Domain. In keeping its name, KIng's Domain includes the Myer Music Bowl, the Shrine, La Trobe's Cottage, the Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden and Government House

Now I know why Victoria used to be the Garden State! After many, many visits to Melbourne I finally wandered around to view for myself its good points. It is a long stretch of parks & walkways from the Yarra River down to the Botanical Gardens. It includes the Queen Victoria Gardens & Kings Domain with Govt. House, Sydney Myer Music Bowl, Shrine of Remembrance & lots of statuary of prominent people of the times. On a cool, overcast Sunday morning, the paths were very popular with runners & walkers. A real nice part of Melbourne for all to enjoy!

The King's Domain Gardens are made up of mature trees and beautiful flower beds; the gardens also include Government House and the Myer Music Bowl, a favourite performance venue in the warmer months. The gardens also include the Shrine of Remembrance, a memorial to those who served in armed conflicts. Scattered throughout the gardens are many fascinating plaques and statues, which adorn the expansive lawns.

This green space is next to the Botanical Gardens and has a lot of old oak and other trees. There are lots of great walking paths.

These gardens are located among the cluster of various Gardens in this large green district that give Melbourne the reputation of being famous for the abundance of well maintained and beautiful gardens.

My wife and I spent a few hours, spread across two days, walking through these various gardens during our recent holiday in Melbourne.

We find it uplifting to have so many gardens to visit.

King's Domain is a collection of parklands near the centre of Melbourne which have helped earn Victoria the soubriquet "the Garden State." The King's Domain ranges from the parklands surrounding the Shrine of Remembrance and the Sydney Myer Music Bowl. It also includes the area surrounding Government House and the region south of the Botanic Gardens. This expansive area is full of flower beds and mature trees. It's peppered with monuments and other fascinating features.

After lunch we wandered across to these gardens. We sat under a gorgeous lemon scented gum and talked and played a leisurely game of cards with our adult kids.

The one that could be better is access to toilets and in particualr clean toilets. The toilets our son walked 10mins to get to were the worst he said he'd ever had the misfortune of having to use. Quote: "People may as well do their toileting outside; it's just as disgusting as the inside"

King's Domain Gardens are part of the beautiful gardens along St Kilda Road, by the Yarra River, all the way down, including the Botanic Gardens. There are large tracts of green space, full of trees, bushes, lovely plants and wonderful flowers, statues, monuments, water features and other nice things. Quite an experience.

In the depths of the Great Depression, Hugh Linaker came up with a design for a new garden for Melbourne. Linaker was a pioneering landscape gardener. Thousands of workers employed on "susso" (sustenance wages) turned his vision into a reality, now known as King's Domain. The shrubs and flower gardens between Government House Reserve and King's Domain bloom most of the year. The rest of the Domain is characterized by sweeping lawns and mature European and Australian trees. Victorians like to say they are "the Garden State," a soubriquet to which the King's Domain makes a notable contribution.

The parklands along St Kilda Road are quite large and contain numerous memorials, monuments and statues. There are walking paths, places to park the car and the Tan Track, a fine gravel running track. A lovely place to visit in the middle of Melbourne.
