Melbourne is known for its parks and gardens and the Parliament Gardens are although small, no less beautiful. The location is right next to Parliament House but also opposite the Princess Theatre and Parliament Railway Station with of course trams running out the front. It's on the corner so triangular in shape but big bang on a place to lie on the lovely green grass, listen to the sound of the fountain and soak up Melbourne.
Withinthe park is a memorial for two of the most prominent indigenous leaders of Australia; Pastor Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys. Plus there is also included with the memorial an artwork by Ngarra Murray.
The Coles Fountain which was built in 1981 attracts many people during the warmer months with its cascading curtain of water. I find the sound very tranquil and inviting, especially when the ducks come to visit and bring their ducklings. There are park benches, water fountain and plenty of bins.
Notes: Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. No bikes to be ridden through the park.

The Parliament Gardens are quite charming, despite their diminutive size. The Gardens adjoin Parliament House and are always lush and green. The Gardens are best known for their fountains, which are quitre unusual. However, the statues of Sir Douglas Nichols (1906-1988) and Gladys, Lady Nichols (1906-81) are more interesing. The couple were pioneering campaigners for Aborigfinal reconciliation. Douglas Nichols was the first Aboriginal to be knighted by the Queen and tthe first Aboriginal to hold Vice Regal office when he was appointed Governor of South Australia

The Parliament Gardens are small but they provide welcome relief from Melbourne's teaming traffic. The Gardens adjoin the Parliament of Victoria, one of the city's most imposing heritage buildings. Benches are available to sit on. The gardens have several interesting features, including a fountain and statues of Pastor Sir Douglas Nicholls and Gladys, Lady Nicholls. They were pioneers in the struggle for indigenous advancement.

Parliament Gardens is adjacent to the Parliament of Victoria. The Gardens have a wide area of lawn, and flower beds which come to life in Spring. The Gardens have a water feature which is quite unusual. The Gardens also have an impressive sculpture of Pastor Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys Nicholls, who were active in advancing the cause of Australia's indigenous people. Sir Douglas was also a champion footballer. In all, they were a remarkable pair.

Parliament Gardens adjoin the Parliament of Victoria. The grounds are smooth and green, and the beautiful flower beds are well cultivated. The water feature is quite spectacular. One outstanding feature is the sculpture of Sir Douglas and Gladys, Lady Nichols. They were among the early leaders in the movement for Aboriginal advancement. Parliament Gardens is a good place for a picnic.

The gardens are very green with the trees, lawns, and colourful flower beds. We enjoyed walking on the lawns and seeing the water feature (good for kids to walk through on the hot days). I had not know that there was the statue of Sir Doug and Lady Gladys Nicholls here. This made the place even more special.

Sitting close to Parliament house is this pretty little garden. Despite the busy hub bub of city life outside this is a calm relaxing place. The Coles fountain is both pretty and the children love it. It is also home to a statue of Pastor Sir Douglas & Lady Gladys Nicholls who fought for the rights of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander People

Parliament Gardens is a lovely green area just around from Parliament House. It is not a huge space but it makes the whole area look better. It's a nice spot for a short walk and a sit down, to meet friends or have a rest. There are some nice statues and some water features as well.

This park is smaller than some of the others but it’s beautiful and usually less crowded. The middle has a huge fountain that is GREAT for kids or yourself during hot weather. If a larger park is what you need hit up Carlton Gardens or Fitzroy Gardens both within 2 blocks of this spot.

One of Melbourne's many gardens. Quite small, but still rather pleasant. Good for a quite sit but not much more.
