Crown Melbourne Poker Room Review: Still a must-visit for live cash poker players! No tournaments..
Location and Access: Crown Melbourne Poker Room sits at the heart of one of the world's most beautiful cities, Melbourne. The casino's prime location on the south bank of the Yarra River offers easy access from the airport and the city center. The poker room is conveniently situated and provides tablets for efficient waiting list management. Game Options: No tournaments have been running since the pandemic, but live cash games are thriving. Stake levels range from 1/3 to 5/10, with the flexibility to buy in for 200 big blinds. Service and Experience: Crown Melbourne offers a comfortable poker room with professional dealers and shuffling machines. It can be a bit dark and feel a bit cramped at times during peak hours. While service is efficient, everything costs money including non-alcoholic beverages. There are also time limits on play imposed due to past issues with gambling safety. Rake and Rewards Rake at Crown Melbourne poker room is high at 10% capped at $15 across most stake levels. Apart from the casino's rewards card, there are no bad beat jackpots or bonuses of any kind. Overall I would recommend Crown Melbourne as a must-see poker destination in Australia. It's well-run and great for cash game players. There is also plenty for a significant other to do around Melbourne while you hit the felt.

    Slipping Crown?
I come to Melbourne regularly for car & horse racing and drop into the Crown on most visits. I have noticed a steady decline in service & value which I put down to lockdown times & recovery since? The short answer I believe is that the cash grab to get back money lost has taken the value out of a visit. The minimum bets on roulette have been raised & the price of food & drink have risen sharply. Not to mention stupid rules blamed on RSA! I was in a 4 way shout on Saturday night and after fighting the throng at the bar to be served, I had to bring the other 3 to the bar before they would serve me!! The most stupidest rule I've ever encountered in a licensed premises? Thank God the pokies were paying otherwise I don't think I would bother in future!

The restaurant variety is good we have dined at most of the fine dining establishment here and the food and service was great however the casino just dosnt compare well to other casinos in Australia Macau or Las Vegas. Tables games are ok however poor variety of slot machines multiple of the same ones repeated throughout. It was surprising the clientel they were letting in the there that clearly did not meet dress or hygiene standards. I would visit for the dinning again however not the casino.

Asked to leave and not come back for 12 hours as we had supposedly been there for 12 hours, totally incorrect as we had Christmas shopped in city, enjoyed Myers Christmas windows, Hopetoun tea rooms for afternoon tea and back to our hotel for a freshen up before heading back into casino after 6pm to find a place to eat and play a little more - all of which could be verified on phone gov.check ins. - employee not interested.

We enjoy casinos as my sister and I are people watchers and enjoy a play, drink and good meal. We have done this all round the world, Las Vegas (over 18 year period) Monte Carlo, casinos on east and west coasts of Canada, London and asia, we like to collect players cards.

Never have any of these venues embarassed/treated like small time criminals by over staying our welcome and told to go to our room like naughty children at 70+/80+. (at 9pm)

Whilst we will miss the vibe of the casino needless to say we will not be back as our local pubs and clubs have excellent eateries and gaming rooms with no travel or time limits involved. Also once borders issues are resolved we will once again be able to visit, The Star in Sydney, Treasury in Brisbane , Wrest Point in Tasmania

Other the years we have always celebrated our dec, mothers birthday which coincides with mine and my late husbands wedding annivserary by going to (Casino) which my mother referred to as Head Office.

At our age we are aware of our strict monetary limits for casino spending, we consider these as nice side trips for all our other adventures in other states and/or countries.

States open 24hours on Facebook and website so wasted $100 paying a taxi there and back for nothing. Very poor, it's a couple of changes taking a few minutes to update their opening hours. Pissed off frankly.

Crown Casino is the absolute worst casino possibly on the planet for Poker. I've played in easily 30 poker rooms around the world and this one gets worse every single year without fail. After this year's changes I have to say that this is place is worse than a disgrace.

Changes this year alone.
1 rake has gone from 25-50 dollars per hand cap depending on what game which is approx. 3-5x more expensive the standard in most countries.
2 Mandatory breaks every 3hrs which you are forced to take a 20 min break. What is this preschool?
3 Game size selection has been eliminated so that they literally only give you the option of 2 sizes 2/5 and some 5/10.
4 The use of the cage requires multiple calls and signatures that it now takes
15 mins per transaction which is unacceptable.
5 You cannot request a table change even if you come with a friend so you can sit together.

Changes in the last 2 years
1 You cannot eat at the table which is only here because they don't want to clean up after people and they do not provide an area for players to eat.
2. They have small tables which they have put these hand sanitizer units in which takes up 20% of the table so everyone is cramped up.
3 You can only stay on the premises a maximum of 12hrs per day which you must then be gone for 12hrs.
4 You must prove or ask a supervisor to confirm you won the money or the cage won't pay you in some circumstances when the win is 5k or more.
5. They have removed all poker tournaments

Other changes in the past that are just poor form.
You cannot get a rake discount when you are even playing heads up 25 dollars per hand.
There is no chip runners/ you cannot change money on the tables for more chips so you must get them yourselves.
There is only 1 side table for every 3 poker tables because they won't buy more side tables.
The staff are allowed to be smart asses and are allowed to provide poor service as it seems to be in the culture of the room.
They increased the rake and masked it with a royal flush jackpot that now has been removed and another rake increase was added on top.
They have inconsistent rules for poker which are not in line with most countries and half the staff are clueless and likely have never played poker.
They have very few wait staff in general so it can be difficult to get a drink.
Whoever is in charge of poker in Melbourne crown is an absolute greedy disgraceful clueless number cruncher.
The food court is downright rubbish. But the fine dining restaurants are good.

INFO FOR OVERSEAS PLAYERS
Terrible. Don’t recommend. I would put 0 stars if I could.
New gambling system makes you sign up to play, ok but lines over an hour long (quiet time) and if from overseas you need a passport, left in hotel room! Back following day 1 hr20mins in queue at another quiet time. All good got a card.
Fun and busy atmosphere, until you win… you can’t take your money out over $1000 without proof of passport again, and full name (no initials) and account number on up to date bank statement. Then only can be transferred into an account back home. We won $1029 no alert comes up to tell u has to be under $1000. This is New Year, no banks open and off on a cruise. Be very weary if you need funds back, we didn’t.
Big shout out to Rob on cashiers counter, one of the managers. Dealt with my frustration very well. Needs a medal.

Whilst it is a large facility, I'm not a huge fan of the Crown Casino. It lacks decent customer service, and a feeling of being a unified facility. I much prefer the Casinos of Vegas, or even the NSW border clubs or those clubs in Sydney. Parking, drinks and food at the Crown are also almost always over-priced for what they offer. Staff are rarely friendly, or seem happy in their jobs. Minimum machine bets and table limits are often too high. Better than nothing if visiting Melbourne, but there are much better places available outside of Victoria.

Booked at one of the Crown Hotels because we presumed we would be able to get late dinner after a show at the casino. What a disappointment!
The only thing open after 11pm was a take-away sandwich shop.
All restaurants close before 11pm - some before 10pm, so getting a decent meal after a show in Melbourne is impossible here.
Never bother paying exorbitant prices for a Crown Hotel again.

It is obvious that the pandemic has had a large effect on the Casino. Having last been here in 2019, quickly noticed the prices of both food & drinks has climbed steeply. Can understand their need to recoup some profit but not in one fell swoop! It was noted that some of the shops & food places haven't recovered, which is sad. As a frequent visitor I showed my mate around and he was surprised at the size of the place & enjoyed what he saw and to be truthful, it still has a bit to offer, just a tad more expensive nowadays!

Consistently the worst gaming experience you will ever have. After lining up for 1.15 hours at the rewards desk because your rewards card is not working (again) so you cannot play, you then get to play...... Provided the machine will accept your / the cash ticket works (and the amount of times it doesn't is ridiculous). Then you will be lucky to get your bet back twice in five spins. Never seen a venue where the pokies are so tight and hungry so often. Something happenned to Crown after the Covid lockdowns, it is now frustrating, hugely expensive and simply not an enjoyable experience.

I am a Melbourne local and with my husband used to visit regularly. Getting the new cards took 20-30 minutes per person and although the attendant was pleasant the process was painful. The “rewards” were diminished. I had assistance checking that my card was working as the software obviously has glitches . It was explained how the parking worked and how to check my card through the VIK machine. Finally, we made our way to the Margo’s for an evening meal. What can I say? The meals were poor, fish and chips were oily and overcooked, the Parma was small, dry and overcooked, the chips were like dry cardboard and the salad leaves were ok but the tomato and cucumber very slimy. The meals were also more pricy than the local pub.
There was a sameness with the machines, admittedly we didn’t check out the whole casino because we just decided we were disappointed and had had enough. We didn’t even stay for a coffee.
Exiting the car park. Followed the instructions, at VIK checked card, parking was on the card and exiting the car park it didn’t recognise the “reward” fortunately there was no queue behind us while it sorted out.
All round I’d give the experience ZERO STARS if I could….. and my husband…. I’ll be lucky to get him to return.

Well all this talk about getting people back in the city we decided on a short trip and went out for dinner at crown..after eating dinner we went to go to the casino..and the entrance was blocked off. We pleaded to be let through as I have a visible disability..dismissed..had to go down the elevator and outside the building in the rain and enter another way..with a broken foot..fantastic guys..if you r disabled in any way I would wait until this covid stuff is over. The way I was treated I think if I slipped over they would have kicked me into the yarra so they weren't liable. Been coming here for years and staying here as well. I will never be back..very stressful experience
