This is a tranquil place near the heart of Melbourne. If you want to get away from the hustle and feel like you are in away in the country somewhere then go have a picnic here. The open air cinema is also good in the right weather conditions.

I love this place. Bring a picnic rug or bring your walking shoes and just enjoy the scenery. Also some great spots for a picnic.

We visited the botanic gardens with our parents today. After an easy tram ride there it was a very short stroll to the gardens. Once inside we walked for a while before discovering the explorer bus which drives you around the splendid 38 hectare garden. For only $25 for the family of 4 adults we were treated to a delightful... More

A great place to wander around buzzing with human and animal life and some amazing flora. The tea room by the ornamental ponds is busy but serve very good cafe food. The $4 dollar blueberry muffin is great (NB: this is the price my partner said it was, may not be accurate!) We will be back in the summer with... More

We are regular visitors to this world-class botanic gardens. Our favourite areas include the New Zealand collection, the "volcano", and the lower cafe. We'll sometimes do a lap of the Tan followed by a stroll in the gardens. Keep an eye out for the Friends' plant sales in Spring and Autumn.

The botanical gardens have a lot to offer, especially for families with kids. Bamboo maze, punting on the lake, all kinds of exotic plants, sculptures - great for a fun day out ;)

On a lovely sunny day, pack a picnic and head to the gardens. Lots of places to sit and relax amongst the greenery. Have a book with you and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Like the other main cities in Australia, Melbourne has a wonderful Botanic Gardens where you can get away from the busy CBD. Not much to do other than walk about and take in the sights, but that's what its pretty much there for. There's a couple of nice cafes; one at the entrance by the War Memorial and the other... More

You have to do the punting where you are taken around the lake in a boat where your punter dressed in costume tells you about the gardens. It's very beautiful and peaceful.

Beautiful gardens and a lovely place to stroll and explore. It's an easy walk from the city center. Definitely worth a visit. And it's free!
