The Royal Botanical gardens is a very relaxing and beautiful free Melbourne attraction. Easy walking distance from Melbourne's Main Flinders Street railway station and tram stops along St Kilda Road. The Gardens are 150 years old and contains 100s of mature exotic trees. The flowers and shrubs are also quite spectacular. There is a lovely restaurant that serves meals to... More

Touring the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne with friends a few weeks ago we decided had flashbacks to about 10 years ago when we were first here and got fairly bent on some interesting pharmaceuticals mixed with some strong beverages. Not really sure what happened the rest of that night but I did end up sleeping in the bushes and... More

We live in the outer suburbs, so don't often head into the city. This was well worth it! Stunning, well kept, grounds, plenty of picnic space for the largest of families, beautiful lakes and, when we deviated off the circular path, we found a stunning little waterfall hidden in amongst the trees. Suddenly everything went peacefully quiet and we stood... More

You can take a stroll or just enjoy the beauty of the gardens by sitting somewhere nice. There are different displays of plants, but the ornamental lakes are my favourites. If you want to know more about about the garden, there are free tours with enthusiastic volunteers available.

A part of the gardens is a bit on hill and it gives great view toward city center. Something I haven't seen in other gardens. The garden itself is very maintained, with lots of flowers.

If you are in Melbourne, this is a fantastic experience to walk around the gardens. Talking in the vast variety of plants that are in bloom, giving breadcrumbs to the swans and ducks. There are paths to walk on, as well as some lovely places to have a nibble or lunch with a great gift shop. There are particular areas which... More
