About
The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

- Aditya MKathmandu, Nepal144 contributionsBoxing Day Test MatchOne of the best stadiums in the world. I wanted to watch the Boxing Day test match and it did not disappoint. The stadium also has a lot of restrooms so it’s not a going to be an issue at all. I also did the Museum tour but the museum isn’t that big. It’s a really short tour but you shouldn’t miss it. We had reserved our seats an online so things were pretty smooth.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 26, 2024
- ready2gonow85 contributionsAFL Saturday night at MCGThis review is for the MCG itself. We saw an AFL game there and it was a very good experience. The only downside was the rainy weather but as my son says "the good thing is once you're wet, you can't get wet twice". The tram there was a bit of a mess due to the rugby game starting at nearly the same time. I was hoping for an 80k crowd but it was half that to watch the Cats vs Bombers. The game was good and the food was surprisingly excellent for stadium food.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 27, 2024
- R R KBengaluru, India150 contributionsFirst trip to a Cricket Stadium. We were here for the 4th Day Test Match between Australia & India finals from Gate 3. This was my first visit to a cricket stadium after seeing Munich olympic stadium 40 years ago. Very impressive with very large seating capacity. That day, it was almost 47000 visitors packed. Enormous number of food and drink shops. Free health check points everywhere. Excellent connectivity by public transport by metro or trams. Nearest Metro being Richmond station. With Rod Laver Arena next door where Australian Open tournament due, very exciting cricket, day was well spent.Visited December 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 5, 2025

Saw day 2 of the 2nd Test v NZ with my 13 yo son. 1st time at the G. As a stadium it didn't disappoint even though the was nothing spectacular about the actual cricket that day. The food prices on offer didn't seem as expensive as other stadiums I've been too recently. What was disappointing was that the National Sports museum was closed for refurbishment - I find that amazing that they would close the museum during one of the nations iconic sporting events in peak holiday season. The other more disappointing thing was the lack of transport getting from the MCG back to the CBD. There seemed to be no extra trams to take the 50-odd thousand people to wherever they needed to go. As far as I could see there were very long queues for the trams and most people just walked. Not being from Melbourne, maybe I missed something ... but I had a lot of friends! If I get to go again, I definitely do some more research in getting to/from the stadium

If you are a sports fan and especially if you are a fan of cricket or aussie rules football, you have to stop here. Personally we are baseball fans and don't know anything about cricket. We did the one hour tour of the stadium on New Years Eve day. It is very well done. The guides are members of the Cricket Club and conduct the tours on their cricket club jackets. Being from the US not really a fan cricket or aussie football, we do love sports. The stadium is beautiful. They take you down on the field and through the under stadium areas. There is a heavy emphasis on the history of cricket, which while I didn't know much about, enjoyed learning about it.
The tour and our tour guide inspired us to come back on January 9 and watch our first cricket match between Melbourne and Sydney. While we didn't really understand the rules, it was a lot of fun to attend and we are committed to learn the game. We'd like to go to another match and we enjoyed the spirit of the cricket fans in Melbourne. For any fan of sport, this is a fun one hour tour worth of taking.

We have just been on the MCG tour. Really easy to get to, in fact we walked from South Wharf took us under 1 hour. Very informative and we really enjoyed ‘Bills’ sense of humour. Definitely a worth while tour. The tour took just over 1 hour and then we spent time looking round the museum before leaving. Everyone really friendly.

We are the self appointed most sports mad city in the world. The scene of so many great sporting events - 1956 Olympic Games, Test Match Cricket, AFL Football but the most sensational was Liverpool and 95,000 singing ‘The Song’ before kick-off. Then there’s the concerts. And it’s all part of a magnificent sporting precinct. And it has its own museum. Definitely do yourself a favour

Title: Melbourne Cricket Ground- Heaven to Cricketers and Cricket Lovers
We reached Melbourne Airport. The flight Gold Coast Airport started late. In fact, we rushed to Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). After reaching MCG we all felt free from tension. Visiting MCG was a dream to me. Thomas Cook India Ltd during “Australia and New Zealand Tour” fulfilled this desire.
The MCG is located in ‘Yarra Park’. MCG is within walking distance of Richmond and Jolimont stations. The stadium is surrounded by AAMI Park, Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena and is close to the city centre.
MCG shop-My wife purchased T-Shirts for me, our son and grandson. We came to know from our tour manager that Melbourne Cricket Club established the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1853.
There are statues of Don Bradman, Shane Warne, Denis Lily and other legendary cricketers
I am an academician and sharing my knowledge and experience with students including master degree students. But I love cricket and cricketers from the core of my heart. But, I am not a cricketer.
Touching the grass of Melbourne Cricket ground is my life time achievement. The last day of 2019 shall be in my everlasting memory.
I am attaching few photos.

We did the MCG tour as part of a work function. The tour was excellent, if you’re a sports fan then this is a must do in Melbourne. You get to see all of iconic areas like the members box, the long room etc. The tour hosts are long term MCC membership holders and have a tonne of knowledge on the history of the MCG.
Following the tour we had dinner in one of the large restaurant type areas within the stadium, overlooking the entire field. The dinner was excellent, the food was great and waitstaff were spot on. The whole event was very enjoyable.

I’m not a great fan of cricket, but the men in our group are, so we agreed to tag along.
I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed the whole tour. I guide was knowledgable, informative and we learnt a lot about the history of the club. The museum is also well worth a visit with lots of cricket memorabilia.
A worthwhile visit for cricket lovers (and non cricket lovers to tag along).

The MCG is such an iconic AFL location that it really is a must do when visiting Melbourne. It is such a better game experience BECAUSE of the people who go & are religious about their teams. That was the fun part about taking the kids - getting them to see that enthusiasm & the emotions people voice in the crowd.

Went to see Australia take on the Kiwis for the 2019 Boxing Day Test match. Hats off the architects, engineers who staff who built this modern day Colosseum. This is an arena that Melbourne will be always proud of. With seating capacity of over 100,000 patrons, the staff is always ready to service big crowds as well. The day was well spent with friends

Went here with my husband and daughter to watch the famous Boxing Day Test. Easily accessible by public transport. Great views of the pitch. As on a par of most areas and Sports grounds the food and drink is a little pricey.

Hi Meredith
I am sorry for the delayed response. I am unable to confirm and not permitted to include a weblink. However if you go to the MCG website you will be able to enquire and book hospitality and catering online. I recommend arranging this in advance if your events are from May-September. All The Best.

Are tours still happening currently or have they been suspended?

Following advice from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic, otherwise known as Coronavirus, the MCG Tours and Australian Sports Museum will not operate from Tuesday the 17th of March.
The decision comes after the Government and health authorities recommended a ban on mass gatherings for the interim period, beginning on Monday the 16th of March to help slow the spread of the virus. The safety and wellbeing of our community remains our top priority as we take this step to ensure we continue to do all we can to protect our visitors, staff and volunteers during these unprecedented and challenging times.
Due to the rapidly changing situation we will continue to be providing regular updates on our website and across our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter social channels.

My dad and I are going for the India vs England World T20 match on 1 November this year. I wanted to know how good the view is from P16 Row B (Level 2A of the ground to make it more understandable). The seats are at the Great Southern Stand near the Don Bradman statue
Written January 13, 2020
I got a great view from the Great Southern Stand end from all levels I visited. P16 will be near to looking straight down the wicket. With a white ball you’ll get a terrific view.
