So fun to walk through Melbourne and see the evolution of art in the city (especially how they are handling the "Graffiti art" - making it an artform. We even got to go to a Chocolate Lounge and try some great Hot Chocolate - almost a meal. Fun to walk through the lanes and inner parts of the city.

Hello C79-family. So great to find your review here. Yes our lanes are what we love to share with visitors who are short on time, it’s the essence of the city, and hard to connect with those city evolutions you mention if they are missed. We really appreciate you taking the time to leave a note here. Safe travels. Fiona and the team. Melbourne’s original laneways walks. HST.

A true delight! We were traveling with friends and signed up for this on a whim! All four of us loved it. We learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the foodie spots we were taken to. We liked one so much we even re-visited the following day. What could be better than a progressive dinner through beautiful Melbourne?

Dear LauraPG7126Lx A whim you say? How lovely, sometimes best moments happen this way, and I am delighted to hear its seems that’s what you had. We have some fabulous venues that share tales of returning guests, I am so pleased to hear you have been some of that group. Our visits though delicious offer just a small offering of these wonderful restaurants menus, perhaps next time we can show you our other selections, we can only fit 3 on a tour, but we have plenty of other ones that join our list. Safe onward onward travels. The team love reading the reviews our guests leave, thanks for taking the time. Kind regards Fiona and the team. Hiddensecretstours

We have been on walking tours in cities all over the world and for the most part they can be dry. This is NOT a typical tour because it offers such a charming and unexpected view of this beautiful city. I knew little of Melbourne and Danae, our guide, delighted in showing us many of the arcades and lanes that I would have surely overlooked. We walked past many charming shops and cafes and ventured inside a few to sample honey or to savor cocoa. Danae's enthusiasm for this city was infectious and we appreciated her knowledge. I would highly recommend this if you are visiting because you really will find that there is a community tucked inside this city that isn't immediately visible from the bustling streets.

I agreed to go on this tour with some friends from regional Vic who needed one more to make up a private afternoon tour. I did balk at the price, but, a little begrudgingly decided to go.
I am so thrilled I did. Wow, it was so interesting. I am seriously born and bred Melbourne, lived here for 50 years (in inner 'burbs) and worked and walked these city streets probably thousands of times and thought I knew my patch pretty well, so thought all of this was to be a bit - ho-hum.
Mind you my husband and I did another 'walking tour' of Melbourne some years ago and the guide, though lovely, was from Tasmania, so we ended up telling him more stories than he knew (don't worry, it was only husband and I on the tour). So I had pretty low expectations.
This tour was the next level. Our guide Sarah had a tough gig with a bunch of wise older women, but she handled us all brilliantly and fascinated us with the many stories, history, architecture, anecdotes and hidden surprises.
I assume the tour success was not just Sarah's expertise and personality, but a reflection of the professionalism of the Hidden Secret Team.
My Melbourne will never be the same to me again, for which I am truly grateful.
I liked it so much we're booked on the Degustation Tour.
If you are not a local and you are interested in the quirky side of history and how this staid, yet beautiful city evolved, you will enjoy it.
If you are a local, you will marvel at Marvelous Melbourne.

Dear JenB. I cant thank you enough for this review, it really does make all of my team smile and remember the fun of having a local on tour... your words "My Melbourne will never be the same to me again, for which I am truly grateful" is the reason why we do this... We are at times a little apprehensive too when we have a local on tour... for many of the reasons that you mentioned... previous bad experiences or feeling there was nothing new to learn... We do work hard to find quirky interesting stories for locals and visitors alike, and we are so pleased to read you enjoyed your day.. Footnote - I was lucky enough to be your guide with your friends on the Progressive walk, and I truly enjoyed your company and enthusiasm on that evening too. During this tour we fell in love with Melbourne! Our guide Luisa was very nice and enthusiastic about the city where she lives and this made us enjoy even more. The places where she took us where all really nice and because the time wasn’t long we memorized them to go back later. She gave us recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. I wouldn’t reccomend taking the tour plus meal because for this price I believe there are more interesting places, incluinding some that she shows along the way.

Dear Julia O We really agree with your first day comments, so thank you for this lovely review. The tour you took was the Lanes and Arcades tour, and we do offer it with or without the lunch, for guests exactly like yourselves. It is true about 50% of our clients take up the lunch - a fabulous restaurant down a laneway. There are so many choices in our city, so we offer one that can help with planning. I have passed on your feedback to Luisa and we all really appreciate such words, and supportive comments. Safe travels and more wandering. Kind regards Fiona and the team. Hidden Secrets Tours. My husband and I had a great time on the Cafe and Coffee tour! Shaun was a fantastic tour guide and we learned a lot about Melbourne's history, with some treats along the way. Would definitely recommend this as an activity - for locals and visitors alike!

HI Sara T, Thanks for joining Sean on tour. We love to hear that you had a great time. Sean is passionate about his Melbourne history, so he was happy to hear you enjoyed that element of the tour. It really does give a greater understanding to Melbourne's coffee obsession. Thanks for taking the time to review.

Our guide Sean arrived promptly at 4.55pm at the designated meeting spot.
The other couple on the tour arrived at 5pm and Sean advised us our tour was just the 5 of us.
First stop was Taxi Kitchen at Federation square.
We had eaten there before and again it was a great taste sensation.
Three small tapa style dishes per person with three matching wines....a great start.
After approx 50 minutes we walked to Izakaya Den in Russell st.
A small Japanese restaurant underground.
Here we were presented with a Japanese beer, sake and a red wine to accompany a fried corn fritter, pork belly and wasabi washed tuna.
All lovely.
Then onto Seamstress in Lonsdale street, we must have passed this restaurant many times without noticing it.
A three level bar/cockail restaurant again in the Asian theme.
Here we had three wines chosen for us to accompany a very small tasting platter comprising of a scollop dumpling, beef dumpling and shredded in a beatel leaf.
Again very enjoyable but by this time l was feeling that the the alcohol content of the evening had outweighed the food side.
I only tried a small amout of each wine as l had consumed enough alcohol
We were offered a menu to choose a dessert (at our own extra cost) but we declined as nothing appealed.
A great evening and would totally recommend it but feel somehow the food content needs to be increased.
Not necessarily because you are hungry but to balance the alcohol amount.
We would like to thank Sean for his knowledge of restaurants within the Melbourne precinct and his friendly nature throughout the evening

Hi Lorraine, Thank you for joining our Progressive Degustation tour. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed all of the destinations and food and drink on offer. We will deeply consider your comments regarding the balance between the food and alcohol and see if there is a way to address this concern. We're always happy to reveal 'secret' venues such as Seamstress - it's such a great place to know about. We hope you visit again.

It rained the entire time and our guide made an extra effort to show us everything and avoid the rain as much as possible. The hidden lanes and the great arcades was a highlight of my visit to Melbourne. The lanes are so interesting to see how businesses have created environments between walls. Since it is a tour, lingering at a cafe or stepping into a shop was not possible, but knowing what to look for upon returning was great info. Our guide was extremely informative and offered a lot of information beyond just what we were seeing. It is an intriguing experience to get some history of Melbourne along the narrow alleys and learn about the arcade buildings rich history as well.

Dear lfolsom521, Thank you for writing a review of your tour with us. We're so glad to hear that despite the rain (which Melbourne is guilty of here and there) you could still see what a great city it is. We make a special effort to highlight how you can navigate your way through Melbourne using the covered arcades on a rainy day. We hope you enjoyed revisiting the many amazing little businesses you passed during the tour, and take your good memories of Melbourne back home with you. Many thanks, Sarah

We went on the three hour walking tour with Kate which we throughly enjoyed. This is a great way to get your bearings on the city, go through parts of Melbourne we did not know existed. Kate was great and gave us history lessons, showed us some great eating and shopping spots. it was freezing the day we done the tour so the stop at the chocolate shop was a great relief. I will be recommending this tour to my friends who are coming over in November.

Dear FATCAT14 We could not be happier to read your lovely review...especially as you survived such a freezing day.. that Spring Cold Snap will catch a local off guard too. The other joy about your review as it is for our newest guide Caity... After her "9 test tour" program you were on her first solo tour, and we could not be prouder. Your friends are most welcome, and we advise booking early as November gets super busy.. and with our groups of max 8 people per guide we fill fast..some days with 3 different guides out.. We hope your return to NZ brought warmer days.. Kind regards Fiona Owner Hidden Secrets Tours
