I enjoyed the history he provided and the places he took us to. It's a great way to orient yourself with the city. The laneways are super cool. Money well spent.

Excellent 3 hour tour of central Melbourne. Guide was a native of Melbourne and was knowledgeable about history, architecture and culture. He included all of the important sites and told interesting stories. Got a real good feel for the city.

I can't recommend this highly enough. I booked online this morning - very easily - and a few hours later was having a brilliant guided tour with Chris. I learnt loads about art, architecture, history, music, development planning, coffee, transport and much more. This an absolutely must-do for anyone visiting Melbourne. Thank you so much Melbourne by Foot.

I only had a day to explore Melbourne and rather than wandering around without much information about what I was looking at, I decided to do a walking tour with Melbourne By Foot. There was a small group that day--6 of us, so there was plenty of chance for chatting with the guide--who was very friendly--and asking more questions. It's... More

Hi EJK, Thanks for taking the time to pen a review. We like to think of our Cultural Walk tour as a highlight of Melbourne condensed into a three hour walking tour. Given that you only had one day, we are thrilled that you enjoyed your time with us on tour. A mixture of history, highlight sites and hidden parts... More

Our only regret was that we did this walking tour on the last day of our visit, rather than the first! We really discovered a ton of Melbourne that we'd missed, but was right under our noses. Especially some of the side alleys and even walking into buildings! Definitely a great way to spend three hours - bring your walking... More

Booked this tour as part of a girls weekend with my Mum and sisters. Dave was such a wealth of knowledge and regaled us with wonderful historical stories as well as tales of the lane ways secrets and art. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed his tour. I imagine many locals would learn a lot from this tour as well and... More

Although a bit pricey at $40pp, the benefit of a pre-paid walking tour (as opposed to a "free" one) is that you get a very much smaller group and the chance to cover more ground in greater detail. We certainly covered a lot in the three hours our group of five spent with Chris and went to places that it... More

This three hour tour starts from Federation Square and focuses on and around Flinders Street. I didn't have a great deal of time to spend in Melbourne, so it was a great crash course, and highlighted some great spots to return to, if I'd been here for longer. The tour started at 1pm, with a cafe break about half way... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
