Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

After booking 7 days in advance as we wanted to experience BDL and their menu, we were turned away for having children under the age of 18. Although nothing on their booking website or venue website asked for ages of guests. This was just after lockdown of COVID 19 was lifted and we then couldn’t get anywhere to eat in the CBD after being turned away, very disappointing coming from regional Victoria to experience this venue, we had booked accommodation just to be turned away. We were told the music would not be suitable even though it started at 8.30pm and our booking was 6.30pm.
They tried to say our kids would not like it in there but after questioning that, they said they didn’t want our kids in their venue. Not only are we disappointed it was embarrassing.

Researched a bunch on basement bars/pubs for their uniqueness & experiences. It's was in an alley way & in the basement, decor is quite interesting but what they want for a beer average $10 was crazy! It's a canned beer, and they didn't have all items in stock. For us Canadians that's very expensive beers, lol. No happy hour either.

Went here as it was one of few places open late in the city. LOVED the live blues music they had- awesome band. Packed, low lighting and a “sit where you can find room” feel but really cool atmosphere. The drinks were pretty pricey but to be expected for Melbourne city. Huge selection of drinks though!

We went on Friday night and luckily got there early enough (before 8) to secure a large table for our group. The staff were great and extremely welcoming, especially Hanna at the door who had us laughing many times that night as he came to check on us. The bar staff and waiters and waitresses were also very accomodating and service was good. The music improved as the night went on. A really cool place with a great vibe. We will be back.

Love this hidden bar in the basement, its really cosy and great atmosphere. We came in the afternoon when it opened and came back later on and it was too busy to even get a table so you need to get in early and hang around. They have live music as well.

Typically we come here when in the city for a bender, it is on the top end but the drinks are incredibly good. We've tried all fo the cocktails, The Dude is good and Bye Bye Paris. Or a name something like that, with the fancy mist.

Also does live music, along the jazz lines.

Shut up and take my money.

Excellent bar for pre dinner, post dinner or just anytime drinks. If you enjoy a good single malt this is definitely the place for you. I tried a selection Isley single malts and had to be reminded that we had a table booked for dinner, otherwise I might still be there. Will definitely be going back.
Great ambiance, great music (not live) and great selection of single malt. Five stars in my book

Felt like we travelled back in time with the 1920s theme. Abundant options for cocktail and other cold beverages. The bar staff are well trained and easy to talk to. They can accommodate your taste to any drink, you just need to let them know what you like. Loved the style this place brought and would highly recommend visiting this place. Prices are moderate starting from $18 a cocktail.

We went through a rather normal door, down some steps and suddenly entered into a character filled bar from top to bottom. We stepped up to the bar and ordered a few cocktails. not only was the bartender very professional but he also knew his drinks. It didn't take long for us to realize he was from Canada!! Great bar, great drinks we'd go back, you must go.

Incredible bar, great vibe, not too loud, drinks were fantastic. Cheesecake martini tastes like cheesecake. And while you’re there, ask for a ‘Redbeard’s Revenge’ from Rhys. Ginger with the beard. It’s his own original recipe and it’s PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!
