Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Centre Place is Degraves St's little brother. It's a bit grungy and it's also narrower. It has some interesting eateries and mediocre street art. Centre Place connects Flinders Lane and Collins St. It's one of Melbourne's lesser-known laneways, but it's interesting..

Centre Place is one of Melbourne's lovely laneways where you can walk through, enjoy the goods on offer, sit down for a bite or a drink, or keep walking. At the end of the laneway you will also find some "street art", not as good as in other streets, but worth a look.

Centre Place is another of Melbourne's interesting laneways with numerous small coffee shops and cafe's and it has a little more character than perhaps Degraves Street just to its south. Definitely worth a look.

We went centre place followed by Scott Alley.
Nothing much. Just rows of cafes offering bf on a Sunday morning.

Scott alley is a very small alley with a barber shop, a take away sandwich shop etc at a dead end alley.

Centre Place is a lively laneway. It was absolutely full of life on the day we were there, and it seems to form a continuation of that other great little laneway, Degraves street. Both are amazing places to go to for some excitement, particularly to sit down and have a bite to eat. Then take a stroll and look at the shops, or inside them! We had a great time and highly recommend a visit.

Another of Melbourne's fabulous laneways...lots of restaurants/ cafes and quirky shops in this little alleyway. I stumbled across this laneway whilst wandering around town today.... often in the city but had never been down this street before. I believe this laneway features on a walking tour but it's easy enough to find.... walk up Degraves Street (off Flinders St) and at the end you'll see it slightly to the right...

Centre Place is another one of the, (shall we say hidden, or buzz word trendy places), but not so hidden laneways to visit in Melbourne?

Access is either via Collins Street along Centre way arcade, which then changes to Centre Place midway towards Flinders Lane, (or vice versa).

Anyway, but the main shops, cafés and eateries are all closer to Flinders Lane.

We only stopped along here for a coffee, however, there is a huge variety of food available that’s too numerous to mention, but would surely entice everyone to something.

While the majority of seating is available inside, there are a few seats outside along the laneway at each venue to absorb both the hustle and bustle and atmosphere.

At the end of Degraves Street is Centre Place. At lunchtime you’ll find this place packed with workers getting their lunch because all the restaurants here are amazing. There is a wide variety of food available and for reasonably good prices too. I’d highly recommend going to Yen Sushi and Noodle. I get the flat noodles with chicken and oyster sauce and for $9.40, it is heaven.

I love the little lanes in Melbourne, so unique and simply amazing. I think we went to Centre Place every single day just to enjoy the vibe there. Small alleys, lots of people, great vibe and energy, lots of food stalls and cafes, with all kinds of food, from sandwiches to Middle Eastern food. The perfect place to just wonder around, grab a bite to eat, have a coffee, watch people and enjoy the day. For me definitely a must see in Melbourne without a doubt.
