Cardinia Reservoir Park is a great place for a family day out. The open parklands, picnic and barbecue areas and native bushland are abounding with native wildlife and flora. Have a picnic among the trees, enjoy panoramic views of the park from the many lookouts and vantage points or stroll along the dam wall. The Park contains three picnic areas each with its own wonderful views of the surrounding bushlands and open lawns. There is also a permanent orienteering course set up within Cardinia Reservoir Park. The Park is home to several groups of wild Kangaroos that are best seen early in the morning or late afternoon. Watch the Eastern Grey Kangaroos feeding at dusk, or basking in the sun along the kangaroo viewing trail. Whether you are looking for a location for a family get-together, a bike ride, walk, or to see the animals, you are sure to find a special area in Cardinia Reservoir Park that meets your needs. Cardinia Reservoir can be accessed from Wellington Road or Red Hill Road. A one way road loops around the main areas of the park.

Plenty of kangaroos pretty much all the time. Great to take new comers to Australia that need a quick fix for kangaroos.

I had been at Puffing Billy Railway and aside from the exercise of getting back to the (delayed) departure at Gembrook, I had been sitting down all day. I came to the Cardinia Reservoir Park because it was listed as having a kangaroo viewing trail. Well considering that this is only the main supply of water for Melbourne you would... More

My reason for visiting the reservoir was to capture my first sight of kangaroos in the wild. I was told I will see them if I go later on in the day just before dusk. I was not disappointed, My first sighting in the distance was exciting then as the sun started to lower in the sky many more appeared... More

Great place to take a walk over the dam wall while enjoying the views of the surrounding hills or the parkland below the wall.

It is possible to drive to several areas of the park giving great views over the reservoir. Lots of kangaroos and other wild life to watch. No refreshments but Emerald is just up the road with a good selection of food and drink outlets.

Thieves were there and back window smashed and handbag stolen even though it was broad daylight and lots of people around. Only left the car for 30 mins. They should set up cctv.

Around dawn or dusk is the best time to spot kangaroos in their natural surroundings in Cardinia Reservoir Park. Beware of their droppings and don't go too close to them or feed them. Take a bush walk to explore the place and you will be surprised to see them and other types of wildlife too. There are picnic and toilet... More
