The Brooke Street Pier is now a modern glass building housing a number of tourist operators and also the Mona Ferry Departure and sales. It is not a tourist destination of interest but a place for tourists to secure tours and trip tickets .It also has a restaurant or two but very little else.

The Brooke Street Pier has existed in various forms for over 150 years. Records of original pier and wharf structures can be found as far back as the 1820’s.
Trade has always been an integral part of Brooke Street Pier’s history. The pier has lots of local and Tasmanian businesses located in it. Unfortunately non of these were open we we visited mid week. It also where the Mona ferries leave from. Again, this wasn't open as we weren't the for the days Fri - Sun to go to the Mona art gallery.
I would've loved to see this open.

There are four reasons to visit the Brooke Street Pier. The first would be to catch the ferry to Mona. The second would be to buy a ticket for the Hop on-Hop off bus and the third to make a toilet visit on the lower level. There is also a fourth and that would be the Aloft restaurant at the end of the pier. Otherwise give it a miss.

There a glass building here where you can take a ferry to MONA. The surrounding of the pier is nice especially on a sunny day. They are also shops and restaurants in the glass building and around the pier. Good for a stroll.

As we were staying at Crest Waterfront, the pier was but a short walk. I didn't realise that it was a pontoon structure until mentioned by someone on our boat cruise. When I checked, I discovered that it is a four storey floating pier. The MONA ferry operates from there and its a stop for the Red Decker, Mt Wellington Bus, Skybus and others. Good variety of bars and restaurants, and Tasmanian produce stallholders.

A lovely relaxed afternoon spent over lunch. Menu includes yummy vegetarian “Harvest Moon” sourdough pizza with beetroot, candied walnuts & feta. Some nice local beers but particularly enjoyed watching the boats in the harbour & the great service by staff. Venue is wheelchair accessible (via lift) with accessible toilet off main pier area (clean & useable but door a bit tricky to use on own to get out once inside with a wheelchair)

Nice area and worth a visit. In the pier building there are a few restaurants and some really good craft shops selling really good souvenirs and crafts.

It's wonderful to see how Hobart has preserved what is important to a city bringing the seafarers and city together. Wonder at night and feel safe in a city of just over 200,000..
