We got to the gate half an hour before closing but Brett was very friendly and welcoming, and let us have a look around anyway. We really appreciated the hospitality and had a great chat with him about Anglesea Barracks and the history of the building the museum is in. The museum itself is worth the look as a lot of care has been put into the set up. My favourite was the cabinet of Trench art and souvenirs!!

Very glad we got the recommendation to have a wander around the grounds because the small memorial area was gorgeous and impactful. The sculpture is especially beautiful and we spent some time admiring it. Really great experience!!

We were the only ones here on a Friday morning so got a lot of attention from the excellent guide. This is the oldest occupied and working military barracks in Australia - the museum has a lot of uniforms etc. and memorabilia - well worth a visit.

My husband has a real interest in militaria, so the army museum was on our to do list. We had problems trying to figure out how to get in but fortunately Steve was bringing the sign in so we went back in with him. He was very informative and obviously has a passion for the museum and military history. The displays were well set up and interesting even to someone who may not be a military buff! We were encouraged to look around the whole barracks and the historical buildings are quite stunning. This is a must stop for anyone who is interested in military history.

An interesting part of Australian history. My son & I really enjoyed looking around the area and enjoying a bit of a history lesson.

We viewed the old jail which is the museum and the various buildings and memorials on ground.

The entrance and where to go for the museum was confusing, worried about just walking into an active Army base. But once in side a Retired serviceman gave us the history of the Military jail and info on the base and buildings. Learnt a few things today. Love seeing the history kept alive.

Didn't think I would enjoy it, but needing to kill a few hours I wandered up to take a look. The museum is small and realistically you could get through in an hour, but start chatting to the old vets that look after the place and things really start to get interesting. Was very pleasantly surprised and went away with knowledge I couldn't have got anywhere else.

What a little gem this museum is. We started with a quick tour of the grounds. Most buildings dated to 1859-1860 and were in very good condition. The museum itself is housed in the old Gaol, and contains quite a history of Tasmanian military activity. This should be a must visit for all.

Took my brother in law to the oldest military barracks in Australia. We arrived in time to be taken on a guided tour of the barracks and hear the history of the of the colony. Seeing the only military cannons turned on citizens of the colony. See the history of army recruited in Tasmania.

This museum is located on the edge of the city of Hobart. As an ex military person I had an interest in visiting this place from the outset of our arrival. Upon arrival we were given a tour of the surrounding Anglesea Barracks precinct before doing the museum proper. Our guide gave us a rundown of what was on offer before we were left to our own resources. It is only a very small museum but a lot of history is packed in to it. It is quite brilliantly presented and the majority of wars are addressed throughout the displays together with history of the local Tasmanian people involved in those respective wars. It is very much in keeping with the rest of the history that we saw throughout Tasmania.
Thoroughly recommend a visit.
