Amazing views

Picturesque views across the Derwent to Opossum Bay and South Arm and Howrah. Great for a relaxed coffee, wine, light meal or a challenging walk on the Truginini Track.

The lookout is about a 10 minute drive from Hobart city. The panoramic views take in such places as Derwent River, Tasman Peninsula, Iron Pot and Bruny Island. The colonial built Signal Station is also located on Mt Nelson. Inside the building are photos and information on its history. On site parking and there is also a brasserie there serving... More

A few kms in off the highway you will find this excellent view over Storm Bay and its hinterland. Hobart is obscured by trees but views to the Iron Pot and Opossum Bay are well worth the visit. The site has picnic facilities, toilets, walking trails and a cafe as well as a panoramic diagram to assist in the identification... More

This place is amazing, the views incredible, not great if your unsteady on your feet a bit uneven in places, but well worth a visit.

The day started out fine then deteriorated so we were disappointed in the less than panoramic views from the lookout. We could get the gist of what it was about though. The weather then set in and we left. Would have been nice on a clear day.

We took this drive up to the lookout and enjoyed the views, it's a lovely drive but make sure you pick the right time of year.

Spectacular views over Hobart, looking east towards Port Arthur round to Bruny Island and the Southern Ocean. The Signal Station was built in 1811 as a lookout for the new settlement of Hobart, to warn the arrival of approaching ships and to communicate with other convict settlements in the region. Delicious food is available at the café in the Signal... More

Good if it's a clear day with fabulous views back to Hobart an onwards towards Bruny. Also very good for birdwatching and there are several walking trails. There is a popular cafe, but it hadn't opened at the time we got there - plenty of people arrived to use it though when it did.
