This theatre, is one of the most beautiful theatres in Australia. When you step inside one gets a feeling of stepping back into the past and it is worthwhile to go and see a show or, take a tour and hear about the theatre's history by one of the tour guides. There is a story that the theatre has its... More

This is a lovely small theatre, with two teirs above the stalls. The stalls themselves are on a decent slope so all can see. We've been to several performances at this theatre, and while these varied in quality, the theatre itself has always been a lovely place to go, something nice to look at in itself, while waiting for the... We booked to see The Wharf Review but wanted to tour the theatre beforehand. The tour is highly interesting and this building is one of Hobart's historic gems. It was an absoloute delight to see the Wharf Review in this magical building. Well done Hobart for looking after the Theatre Royal!

We (me and my 2 adults sons) from Sydney and on holidays on Tasmania went to visit the theatre royal, Hobart on 6/2016 and found a large queue of school children. Even though that their teacher kindly mentioned us to go behind them to enter and visit the theatre, we preferred to wait and asked for permission. Thus, we talked... More

We saw a show with a 7 year old but are yet to do the tour. Being the oldest theatre in Aust, the building is beautiful as you would expext, the atmosphere is fantstic and it's quite intimate. I think its a must to visit. The cheapet seats are obsured by poles but overall it great viewing. The only issue... More

Attended the Theatre Royal for a show after a long absence of seeing a LIVE show - part of the Festival of Voices program and it was just great. The booking system was efficient, a drinkies at the bar beforehand- with my wife taking her glass into the theatre, so she did not have to skull her's and you feel... More

No matter which performance you go to see this old theater is an experience in itself. Might not be the most comfortable seating but the atmosphere makes up for it

The Theatre Royal is the oldest working theatre in Australia, and opened in 1837. Although I am a local and attend the theatre quite often, I had no idea of the theatre’s fascinating history until I went on a tour. The guide was enthusiastic and informative and I learned so many interesting snippets about the performers, the peaks and troughs... More

The theatre is great for live entertainment. In recent years it has been refurbished which makes it even more attractive. Viewing is great from all seating which is extremely comfortable. The acoustics are perfect and clear audio. Booking is efficient and immediate especially on-line with the theatre.
