Such an interesting place to visit - make sure you do both the historical tour and the Her Story performance.

This is an important historical site and worth seeing while in Hobart. The general entry fee is small and while we were short of time, the tour looks like it would have been very interesting. Just wandering around is quite moving, reading the stories of...More

Go and learn more about the life of a female convict. The tour is worth the price. The history speaks for itself.

The Female Factory provides amazing insight into convict era Hobart and the conditions of the female convicts. Most of the buildings are gone so to fully appreciate history, take a tour or ensure you experience the re-enactment where two actors bring the Factiry to life...More

This is a worthwhile place to visit but don't expect much in the way of buildings. There does exist, however, a valid attempt to tell the story of women convicts and their experiences. The site has guided tours available.More

Had I not seen a note about this at a Quilt Exhibition in Melbourne, when viewing the Rajah quilt made by convict women on their way to Australia, I may not have noticed this in the brochures. On entering the compound, the first thing I...More

We were there on a cold, damp summer day in February and attended both the theatrical interpretation followed by the guided tour. They really made history come alive! Although the ruins aren't much to see by themselves, you can just feel the number of lives...More

The tour guide for the tour around the the site was extremely interesting and we actually enjoyed his descriptions much more then "Her Story" which we joined later. "Her Story" enacted the life of a fictitious convict woman Mary James and the hardships she suffered...More

it's a bit of a shame just how much of this attraction is missing. The first area housed some interesting anecdotes, stories and memorabilia but the rest of the site just lacks enough to make it a greatly worthwhile visit. Maybe given the occasional tour...More

Dear Virginia W, Thanks for your review and we appreciate your feedback. As mentioned in other responses here, the Female Factory was in operation in the 1800’s and like many old sites there has not been a large amount of preservation. Four years ago a...More
