We loved our time in Hobart and on our last morning, right on Salamanca Place, we found some fab and unique art pieces in Aspect Design to take home as special gifts for our family. The Mark Knight crystalline glazed ceramics were so beautiful we bought 2 pieces and the wonderful Glenda ensured they were packed that well that they survived the flight home! I'm kicking myself for not buying myself a few Mark Knight pieces too! For lovely unique things that are not the usual "tourist tat", I'd pop in here for sure next time...even just to say hi to the lovely smiley Glenda again!

After living in Hobart for three years, it only made sense when I recently returned that I visited one of my favourite shops in Hobart - Aspect Design. I had previously purchased gifts and furniture from the store, and was happy to see the same excellent standards prevailed. The welcome was friendly yet not overwhelming, and I certainly wasn't 'tailed' around the store. However, when I had questions on some of the furniture, the team were ready to help.

Aspect is one of the largest holders of blackheart sassafras furniture in Hobart that I've seen. Given I was looking for a hall table made of blackheart, it made sense to see what was on offer. After discussion, this was followed up by email, with options for the hall table, including any need to customise based on my requirements. Having decided on a bespoke choice, this was made and finally delivered yesterday. I now live on the mainland and was worried about how the table would travel. I needn't have bothered. The crate it arrived in was lovely and robust, and the furniture expertly packed for the journey. The finished product is a beautiful piece of furniture, and certainly an antique of the future.

If you're looking for something a bit smaller, Aspect also have a lovely choice of artisan made gifts. For those of you who are visiting Hobart, if you visit only one shop in Salamanca, then make it this one. You won't be disappointed!

Top notch store in all of Hobart. If you are looking to take a piece of Tassie home with you this is the place. High end high quality items. We bought a timber dining table one of a kind. Louise made the purchase very easy and was a joy to work with on it. Charles handled all of the logistics to get the table packed and shipped to USA. Not a scratch on the table. Mitchell the owner is a great bloke who stands behind everything. We now have the table of our dreams and our 25th anniversary gift to ourselves.

We have been to Tasmania four times and we say Tasmania is beautiful and the people are even better. Aspect Design lives up to those high standards.

This is a nice shop full of lovely Tasmanian gifts. My daughters were looking to buy something with their spending money and they found some cute animals that were a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

We recently returned from a fantastic self-drive tour of incredible Tasmania. My partner and I were intrigued with the eye-catching window display at Aspect Design on Salamanca Place and decided to check it out. Almost immediately after entering the shop, we both knew that this was the place to purchase a piece of locally produced artisinal work to bring home to Canada. A bit of a tough call, to say the least, having been “on the road” for over three months and, with limited space in luggage, opted for a beautiful pottery made by Jane Thiele, to add to our collection of pottery acquired through our travels around the world, including Egypt, Iceland, Thailand, Uruguay, NZ, Costa Rica, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Chile, etc. A true delight, as part of our shopping excursion, was dealing with Louise, who, while embracing what we found was the typical “Tassie” culture, warmth and friendliness, walked us through the different areas of the shop that included jewellery, home decor and furniture. Safely packaged for their long journey home, our pottery and two beautiful new ornaments to add to our Christmas Tree will definitely be the topic of more stories to be told, let alone the comments already received. In a nutshell, Aspect Design is THE place to shop for unique, one-of-a-kind works of art to bring home to remind yourself, as well as to encourage others, about your trip and encourage them to visit! The gallery is to be commended for its long standing support of local artisans and supplying tasteful products for discerning travellers. Congratulations for a wonderful experience and a job very very well done!

At the Aspect Design you can really find the things you wish to own. The Woodwork of the Tasmanian wood is fantastic. They have in the store a number of furniture products that would be worth buying. The transport to Europe is however, a bit far and many pieces you cannot dismantle into smaller packages. It is a great pleasure to walk through this store and admire the Tasmanian woodwork.
Truly excellent.!!

Last time I went there was 2 years ago. It is still thriving and seemingly doing good business. The products are still mainly Tasmanian Wood Products and Tasmanian wood is exquisite. However I had a feeling that it had downgraded some. The really great pieces were not there anymore. In fact I went there again as I had decided to buy some of the furniture they have on display. However this time I did not think that it was all that great anymore and like I said it seemed that there was less to really like.
Furthermore the pieces are quite expensive so if you buy something it has to be something that you really like.

This shop is located in the Salamanca Arts Centre with a frontage to Salamanca Place.

They have an enormous range of, what appeared to be very well locally made, goods and handicrafts including paintings, prints, ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles and just about anything you can make from timber from furniture to spoons.

Well worth a browse.
