We came back to Duck Lagoon several time to bird watch and to search for koalas, which live in the many eucalyptus trees here. The area is for campers but interesting to see birds. We finally did see a koala - the best sighting of our 3 month trip in Australia - he was sleeping low on a tree and I got a picture with him and me in it!

DUCK LAGOON out of KINGSCOTE KI
Lovely quiet spot. No power but nice clean toilets and BBQ shed no lighting in it so use before dark. Kangaroos and birds and sheep in paddocks. Didn't see koalas but suppose to be seen often. For $22.50 a night for 2 it was good. Self registration put money in envelopes and into safe payment shute. We are fully self contained motorhome and area is best for people like us. They do have a grassed tent area that we saw some overnight swag campers use with car and awning.

Such a peaceful and relaxing place to visit. Plenty of birdlife. Great, clean facilities including toilets, bbq, plenty of tables and seating. Great for photography. Sheep grazing, historical buildings and vehicles as well as Eucalyptus distillery historical equipment and information. Drive includes a SHORT distance of well maintained dirt road.

If you are interested in any or all of these, then this is a must. Avoid extreme weather, heat, wind, rain. There are sheltered areas where you can watch the lagoon and its wild life without being seen by or disturbing the water birds on and around the lagoon. There are rusting machinery parts visible where an enterprising eucalyptus distillery once stood close to the lagoon. There is some information there for those who want to learn of this local past. The Eucalyptus trees are picturesque, especially beautiful where they are mirrored in the expanse of water. With eyes to see, ears to hear and a sense for tranquility you will find Duck Lagoon the little gem it is in nature.

We discovered Duck Lagoon on recommendation from the locals. We are reluctant to share this jewel with tourists but it has to be seen to be believed. Excellent facilities, a gentle hike through creek beds and meadows, and a lagoon that defies description. We always have it all to ourselves even at the height of summer, enjoying a bbq before an adventure of discovery. YOU MUST GO!

We just swung through for a picnic lunch on our way to Stokes Bay hoping to see some koalas.... Walking around the lagoon, it felt surreal and almost prehistoric...the vegetation looks almost nothing like what we have in North America.... And it was interesting to look at the ruins of the eucalyptus processing operation that was on the site so many years ago..... Didn't see much wildlife, except for a few geese, but we heard there's a good chance of seeing koalas in the area......just not that day.

The Duck Lagoon is a lovely little place to view some Aussie Wildlife in their natural surroundings. Be patient and quiet and you will see birds in their natural habitat as well as koalas up in the trees. Makes for some very special photo opportunities. A pretty place. Worth a short detour.

A pleasant surprise after the salt lakes nearby. Water level was down for the end of summer. But good vantager points and two hides make for good birding.
As well as the garden variety Ibis and Spoonbills, and chestnut teal and masked lapwings, the twitch was a black fronted dotterel.
No charge for day visits. Low fees for overnight campers.

A nice tranquil spot to observe birds. There are a few koalas as well, if you are lucky, you might spot one (or several) in the trees. You can go for a walk here, are have your lunch in one of the picnic shelters. Duck Lagoon also has toilets, and a BBQ. You can camp in the council maintained tent area (register and pay on site), if you don't mind that it is tiny and exposed.

Just a short way off the Playford Highway in Cygnet River, it has toilets, water, shelter and, for a fee, camping sites. It’s classic native lagoon landscape, gum trees mainly, rough to some eyes but appealing to others. We walked along the banks of the lagoon viewing the area, sighting ducks and other birdlife. There were sheep in the area too. It’s worth a brief detour off the highway to look around.
