You have to visit so you know what my title is about. We drove from Coober Pedy for approx 20 mins and turned off R on a corrugated road, but not too bad for around another 15 mins and came to this beautiful landscape. The lookout is informative and worth the drive. Continue after the lookout and turn left and this will take you through the Breakaways as though you are driving on the moon. Absolutely startling. Don’t miss the two dogs and their owner looking after them (you have to go to understand this). Carry on to the incredible dog fence and you then continue on the road turning right to take you into Coober Pedy. Total drive is approx 70kms and is definitely worth driving. Loved our excursion. Note - no toilet facilities, take water 💦 as it was really hot. We did not see one car 🚗 on our whole excursion so let someone know you are going and a rough time you will return. Have fun!

if you are a movie buff you will love this as Prescilla, Pitch Black, mad max and some others were filmed here. Moon plains looks like the moon and the landscape is very from another planet kind of feeling. Worth a trip for the sunset or sunrise you can drive yourself but dirt roads so we took a tour and george was our host. take water with you as you do get out and walk and it was very hot the day we were there.

It's a few kilometers drive on an unsealed road just off the Stuart Highway but the drive is worth it. The view from the outlook point are impressive and the informative information signs add to the experience.

Spectacular multi coloured peaks rising from wide, flat plains show the different sedimentary layers set down when this whole area was under ocean. Easy 68k circuit from Coober Pedy aso takes you past the Dog Fence.

Well worth the side trip. If you have seen the Painted Desert or missed it and wanted to them make sure you go here. We thought is was more spectacular than the Painted Desert to be honest. You get a better view from the lookouts. Make sure you stop at both. Added bonus - you can also tick the dog fence off your bucket list.
