Visited on a recent trip to Adelaide based on glowing recommendations here and elsewhere.

The first I noticed as soon as we entered was an overwhelming musty smell, clearly suggesting an issue with damp. Along with the well-worn furniture and fittings (torn couches, shoddy roof paneling, etc.), it really felt like a dingy basement rather than the tidy art deco style bar that the well-curated pictures on their website and SM would suggest.

The cocktails were ok without being notable. Similarly, the service was friendly but not particularly attentive.

I really hope the owners look at giving the place a well-needed refresh, as they seem to have kept Bread & Bone upstairs in pretty good nick. For cocktails however, there are much much better options on Peel St.

This used to be a favourite of mine until last night, I was welcomed upon entry by a blonde girl who was bossy and rude. Told us to move away from the bar and sit at a table as it was table service, we waited a very long time to get our drink after she took the order. I’m not sure if she is new but she set a horrible atmosphere and made us all feel really uncomfortable. My opinion of Maybe Mae has now been tarnished and I’ll probably never go back there....

Get out of customer service / hospitality industry if you don’t know how to interact with people, it’s not hard to be nice!!

Great little bar in an Adelaide laneway. The drinks were good and priced right.
Visited on a Thursday night about 9.30pm. I found the music really spoilt any chances of a good atmosphere; songs were way too old.

Cool cocktail bar in a basement venue in the city center of Adelaide. Tasty cocktails with extraordinary taste, friendly staff and cool music from the 50s and 60s. Thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We read about this bar in the hotel brochure and we ended up being so impressed we went back the next night. The staff were really friendly, knowledgeable and were happy to make suggestions about other hidden gems in the area we could explore. If you want a good place to go get some fine drinks then this is the place to go, good luck finding their hidden door!

Don’t have much more to say that’s the title. The cocktails we tried were very unique and really good. It’s also a comfortable space with good music that isn’t too loud. The only downside is that there seems to me a small mold problem. You can tell by the smell when you come in that they should invest in a little dehumidification or have some fabrics that need to be replaced. Nothing too big of a deal though, and you don’t notice after the first minute or two.

This place was recommended by the staff at La Rambla.

Love that it is hidden away and upon entering we were pleasantly surprised we could sit at the bar.

The staff were amazing. Very friendly and helpful. Loved watching them make cocktails.

We came here last year and loved it. The BEST cocktails, delicious and creative. Usually I don't like bourbon or vodka or other certain spirits but I'll drink anything on Maybe Mae's list because I trust them to serve a very, very good drink. We came back and the cocktails are still amazing. What they're doing with spices this winter is tasty as hell. I was disappointed to see things falling apart a little bit. The foam ceiling is falling down and staff drink on the job. It's those details, the perceived value, that can ruin the classiness and make expensive cocktails seem less like a worthwhile purchase.
