We visited Adelaide Arcade the oldest arcade in Adelaide while on a recent trip. The arcade was opened in December 1885 & has distinctive domes, ornate details, and architectural grandeur. As soon as you step inside you are transported back in time. All the old shops were amazing. We even saw an old hat shop. This is a great place to purchase some interesting items or just for some window shopping.

Adelaide Arcade is a heritage shopping arcade in the centre of Adelaide, South Australia. It is linked to, and closely associated with, Gay's Arcade. It opened in December 1885 and its distinctive domes, ornate details, and architectural grandeur had never before been seen in Adelaide.

Historically significant , this beautiful old arcade dates back to 1885 and one of the first in Adelaide to have electric lights. The old Carrara Marble floors are still there and it has retained some of its early beauty but it is historically significant but not that great for shopping. Fortunately it is still there as a reminder of the past.

My wife and I find ourselves in the city. There was some thought about visiting the Art Gallery, but the Arcade won out! First an excellent coffee and cake at the Coffee Spot, and then a browse up and down the Arcade. We enjoyed chatting to the managers of the Games Shop with its vast range of games, puzzles and jigsaws. We then resisted the urge to visit Haigh’s Chocolates, having over-indulged at Christmas. The Button Shop is an amazing experience, and there is a very interesting Arts Gallery around in Gay’s Arcade. It is worth stopping to view the (covered) steps down to the old tearooms beneath the main arcade, and then a stop at the Card Shop with its helpful owner and extensive range of gift cards. We found this a wonderful way to spend an hour in the city!

Step back in history with this incredible arcade first opened in 1885. Lovely Art Deco architecture still intact.
Packed full of internet shops, cafes and boutiques. Visit the small but interesting museum on the first floor.
Great photos to be had on ground and upper floor.
Don’t miss the glass window on the floor that leads down to a basement!
Charming!

This old arcade is a historical site. The oldest shopping arcade of Australia is beautiful. There are many nice little shops, coffee shops and restaurants. It's worth to walk through and look out for something special in the small shops. The decoration at Christmas time is amazing.

Loved this arcade. Quirky shops including a hat shop, a button shop (buttons as far as the eye can see), an arcade museum, jewellery shops, Haighs chocolates, aboriginal shop, souvenir shop. Walked through here multiple times during our 2 week stay.

Just like Sydney's Strand Arcade. With lovely shops and cafes to check out. Well worth the visit. Off Rundle Mall.

The Adelaide Arcade is similar to the Strand Arcade in Sydney ( minus Haig's Chocolate Shop ). It is the oldest shopping arcade in Australia, founded in 1885 with 50 stops, the arcade grow to over 100 shops through the addition of a balcony area in the 1960. It was the first building in South Australia to have electrical power lights. It is very elegant , lovely tiled floor, a Museum celebrating 120 years of the arcade, cafes in , boutique shops eg. Heldren, Alexandra Lingeries, Chris Kisna ( fine English Shirts ), Adelaide Hatters and Essence Of Australia, on top of all this it is said that it is haunted at least with three ghosts , one of them is the caretaker Francis Cluney who fell while investigating a flickering light
