Its a great view from Montefiore Hill and a great way to acknowledge the man who designed Adelaide with it's green belt all round.
Such a shame that a good part of the view of the city is blocked out by the buildings at Adelaide Oval.
Well worth visiting though and the remaining view really is marvelous.

This spot is such a cute place to view some of Adelaide city. Overlooks Adelaide oval. When my kids were younger they used to go ice blocking here which was so much fun! There’s a beautiful old big tree that sits right on the corner. Several benches placed a good distance apart to sit and enjoy. Interesting history for reading at the statue.

On our way back from North Adelaide, we stopped at this little park. It no longer has a panoramic view, but it's looked after well and peaceful.

Visited on Thursday 27th February. I'm sure Colonel Light would be proud of the view now, to see how his plan has been used and adapted as the city grew. Yes the Adelaide Oval does block some of the view so I guess you need to go up one of the tall buildings to get a view of the whole city now. That's progress.

Strictly speaking, Colonel William Light was not an architect; he was a surveyor with a vision, though. He thought that from the high spot of Mt Montefiore, where he was able to get a beautiful view of the area and sea below, and that the location before him be a perfect spot for a city, a city that he would design. This was back in 1837 and William Light, a British military officer, was assigned by the government to survey the area. Now there is a memorial statue and plaque honoring him and his accomplishment: the beautiful city of Adelaide, the only Australian city to have been designed and to have deliberate concepts and placements of broad avenues, parks, and public buildings.

The views of the modern day city from Montefiore Hill are impressive and sweeping. Shouldn't be missed if you are spending a few days here.

Great to stand and think about the choices he had to confront. To lead is never an easy task and this memorial does justice in its position and views

A popular place to view Adelaide. Just as exciting as it sounds. Probably the best natural looking to see the Adelaide CBD.

This is a good place to take photos overlooking Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills. Parking at times may be a little difficult.

Light's Statue has been moved since it was first unveiled in Victoria Square, Adelaide in 1906.
In 1938 it was moved to its current position on Monteffiore Hill; the decision was made in 1936, Adelaide's centenary. The statue honours the man who planned the wide streets that make up the CBD and the parklands that surround the city.
The statue is iconic with Light's right arm extended and pointing towards the city he designed. The statue is situated in a garden with a low semi circular brick wall in front; separating the garden from a hill towards Adelaide Oval.
St. Peter's Cathedral is situated about a 5 minute walk from Light's statue.
Though the new Adelaide Oval in some ways blocks the full vista of Adelaide.
The area still provides a view of the Adelaide hills and parts of the CBD. It is I feel still worth a look at.

I've always known about this place, namely because my Dad would drive past here every Sunday Morning on the way to church, and for a while I thought it was just that statue that was pointing at Adelaide. As it turns out it is a memorial for the guy that actually founded the city of Adelaide. The place used to have a pretty decent view of the city, but then they decided to revamp the stadium and I have to admit that the view is nowhere near is cool as it used to be. Still, it's certainly something that is worth checking out if you are wandering around Adelaide.
