We enjoyed a short stop here while on our Barossa tour. Great location for views over he valley and places afar. The greenery of the vineyards was a standout in the dry landscape. Named after one of the original settlers in the area. Well worth stopping here for great vies, the sculpture park and Pioneer Memorial.

Only a short drive from any of the 3 major towns of Tanunda, Nuriootpa or Angaston, Menglers Hill provides a great view over the majority of the Barossa Valley. You can see from one end of the valley floor to the other & there are some quite interesting sculptures on the slope directly below the lookout. Further along the road which takes you to the lookout is a road which turns off to the right (Tanunda Creek Road) & takes you to the Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park. Great park for a walk through native bushland & to observe large mobs of kangaroos & native birdlife quite closely.

This lookout is not at the top of the hill but you still get a reasonably good view over Tanunda, Bethany and the surrounding area and there is a very good carpark. There is also a location pointer.
We visited in late May when there was a lot of autumn colours on the vines which added to the spectacle.
There is a small stone sculpture park on the slope of the hill in front of the lookout.

Near the top of Mengler Hill is a car park with panoramic views across the Barossa region. It is a clear view, but there are few features to discern! There is the usual pointer giving distances to various places, but perhaps the most interesting feature here (not counting the nearby sculpture park) is the memorial to the Barossa Pioneers. I particularly noted the little phrase ‘pious pioneers’, and wandered what they were really like! In retrospect, considering the very large number of Lutheran churches they built, perhaps they were!

If you want to get a big picture view of the Barossa then perhaps grab a bun or even lunch from the Tanunda Bakery and head for Mengler Hill.
Take your time to appreciate the wide angle view and contemplate how many great wineries there are still to visit!
Think about the early settlers who created the now world famous wine region that is Barossa ...... then head off to sample the fruits of their labour
