Stunning place. Our guide, Michael, who is a volunteer for the place actually explained well on the history of the buildings. We actually enjoyed very much with his explanation. I normally will lost interest really quickly and take photos instead but I listened to him all the time. But also felt bad because we only left at 4.30pm which took the whole tour around 1.5 hours. And the scones are actually very nice. I so far only in England ate the best scone and this is definitely one of the best I ate as well

The gardens are beautiful & the house full of history. Watch for open days or events that are sometimes held in the grounds. Lovely gates at the front of the property.

Some of the photos on this site are of Government House in the city, so I have added some photos of "Old Government House" which is located in the Belair National Park. The house and gardens are open the first Sunday of every month and public holidays. Enrty is by a gold coin ($2) donation. The house has been restored and beautifully decorated and furnished in the Victorian era to represent the well to do of the era. We spent about an hour looking through the house and Servants quarters/large kitchen building and surrounding gardens. The plunge pool inside the house was a surprise and is beleived to be the first built in the state. Talk to the volunteer guides as they are a wealth of knowledge about the house and gardens. There were children amongst the groups visiting when we visited and they were fascinated listening to the guide about different items in the kitchen - so will interest all ages.

Great opportunity to see a unique piece of Australian history. It was built in 19th Century as the Governor's country retreat (with an indoor plunge pool!) with a separate cottage for his servants - now beautifully restored and maintained by volunteers. Spent a lovely hour here - it opens on Sunday afternoons - and we were shown around by one of the volunteers. Just a gold coin ($2) donation per person. Set in Belair National Park so enjoy a walk afterwards and see the nearby aboriginal birthing tree.

Old Govt house in Belair National Park is a lovely little gem (albeit rather small), and the indoor swimming pool has to be the main surprise - just to see that over 100 years ago such a thing existed. Good if you like Victorian things and history. Doesn't take long to go round, but is quaint and the small garden is cute.

The Government House is only open certain times. We managed to get in on a Sunday and toured the interior of the building for free. Very interesting history throughout the house - lovely dining room and morning room that has entertained many heads of state from various countries.
