It was wonderful to again attend Mass at the oldest Catholic Cathedral in Australia.

The priest was relevant in his homily, and the Mass well attended.

In the 'City of Churches', it's great to see the Catholic faith continuing to prosper and hopefully grow.

Construction of St Francis Xavier Cathedral began in 1851 and was consecrated in 1858, although it was not completed until 1996. It remains the oldest Catholic cathedreal in Australia. St Francis Xavier is the Patron Saint of Australia and is also known as the Apostle to the East. He was one of the founders of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits. The Cathedral is built in Gothic Revival style, it is a notable landmark of the city of Adelaide.

The Roman Catholic Church dates back to 1858 and was built in Gothic Revival Style and sits on the corner of Victoria Square. It was not open to see inside.

St Francis Xavier was a founding member of the Society of Jesus, better known as the Jesuits.. He is regarded ass being the Apostle to the East. He is also a Patron Saint of Australia. This magnificent church is a fitting memorial to a man of great faith. It took years to build the cathedral, but it was worth it.

We had a good look of the church on Monday 25th May, not knowing what’s going on inside. Then, in the evening we learned through the news that new archbishop was appointed.

We entered this Cathedral simply because we were walking by. We did not spend long but the majestic ceilings stunning stained glass windows and overall architectural design contributed to a very peaceful and sacred atmosphere.

An old cathedral in the middle of the city. Step inside to appreciate the beautiful interiors which are well maintained. It's close to a number of other attractions.
