- Robert B3 contributionsWorld-classI have travelled the world owning private motor yachts and Hamilton Island surpasses. Anything I have ever experienced around the world including Europe the management of the staff in the office from the manager herself. The women who man the radios and bookings and the boys on the docs are second to none world class and the best I have ever experience I would like to give a special mention to Heather in the office Janet the manager who is the kindest lady I have ever met and especially to Brad who works the boats and the concierge service. If management reads this I think it is about time that you recognise the staff members and the exceptional job that they dothey will surpass any industry standard that there is worldwideVisited November 2024Traveled soloWritten November 21, 2024
- Atravelling265Brisbane, Australia45 contributionsSo beautifulWe stayed in apartments that overlooked the Marina, loved watching the boats come and go. The lights at night across the boats are beautiful. At the Marina itself there are great restaurants, a tavern, cafes, a bakery and boutiques. All of our booked boat trips left from the Marina, everything is well signed so you know where you need to be for the different boats.Visited November 2024Traveled with familyWritten November 26, 2024
- Rod C55 contributionsHamilton IslandWe stayed at the Frangipan appointments for four nights and what a wonderful experience. The marina offers everything you need from restaurants to gift shops, even a supermarket. One evening we managed to watch the fruit bats coming out from roost and what a view it was, there was hundreds of them. The beaches are wonderfully clean and the water lovely and warm. Looking forward to returning again.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 1, 2025

The views were stunning almost from any angle; inside my hotel room, and along my way when I walked to the marina. The island provides wifi everywhere, which is very convenient. There are buses running around the island, which is very convenient. From the Reef View Hotel, I can pretty much walk to anywhere I need to be, even though I did take the free bus route (blue line) just to get an overview of the island. There is also an IGA, a supermarket chain in Australia, so one can get the needed groceries during vacation, mostly. The Marina Cafe is always crowded, with excellent food and services, close by 2 PM though. The Art Gallery is a must-visit place on the island. There is also a pharmacy and a post office on the Island. The seawater looks teal, fish can be visible clearly in the water. Birds are aggressive, and they compete for food with humans relentlessly. In July, although the temperatures are between the 60s and 70s (Fahrenheit), a wind jacket is a must for a fishing trip or anything over the seaside. Had a great time there; not too crowded, not too quiet either.

Great idea and well thought out bus service only dropped it down on spot because of a particular bus driver who seems to have a double standard. We hopped on to go round the island for the first time yesterday and the driver Mary looked at my wife and daughter who had their COVID masks on but only over their mouth said to them you must have them over your mouth as well Later in the trip a group of young people jumped on all masked and one who appeared to be drunk or near so stood up the front next to her and was giving her special attention his mask clearly not covering his face and Mary’s mask even came off at times in the session they were having This woman clearly has double standards and wants a boot up the backside for allowing this. This is one thing I can’t stand people with one rule applying for done but not for others. Someone please look into this driver

We stayed at the Reefview hotel on the 12th floor, lovely views over Catseye Beach.
The rooms were large but the bathrooms were a little dated, overall very nice stay.
We chose to walk from the hotel to the marina this was an easy walk less than 10 minutes.
We ate in The Mariners restaurant, very nice place food was good.
Our favourite restaurant was Ramanos we really enjoyed the food and the staff were very engaging and eager to help.
The hotel offered a good buffet breakfast looking over the pool area, the hotel staff were lovely and had time for a chat.
We walked the trails and loved the views at the top of passage peak, moderately challenging.
The weather was sunny with showers but not cold.
Our overall experience was good, the island was spotless, the ambiance and atmosphere was second to none, we really enjoyed the island feel and felt very relaxed at the end of our stay.

“Hammo” is in the midst of a perfect storm holiday wise. With no overseas destinations available Hamilton Is is one of many over crowded destinations full of locals. Accomodation is full and unavailable until the new year. Restaurant bookings are like hens teeth and there are currently NO fine dining options unless you are in the elite accommodation sections (Beach Club or Qualia). The finer dining establishments are closed, presumably due to the lack of itinerant staff. Dining cruises have ceased. Buggy hire impossible. There are no options for a romantic night out. It’s all loud and boisterous at the kids dine free places. And did I mention the rainy weather? However given our Covid situation we should feel lucky I guess. But it will be some time before we come back.

The marina is the entry to the island via boat. Airport is also a couple of min away. It's a cute little seaside town with restaurants and shops surrounding it: bakery, fish and chips, Romano's Italian restaurant, tavern, yatch club, icecream shops, pharmacy, IGA with bottle shop and the location for water tours. Water is crystal blue and it's nice to sit looking over the marina eating dinner.
Some restaurants were closed which I assume due to COVID but unsure. Only place to buy fresh seafood is the IGA. There is a free bus going to and from the marina to hotels every 10 min. We visited this area a lot when we were here for 4 days. Very clean on the streets. Lots of golf buggies which you can hire and cruise around the island instead of getting a bus or walk (costly though). All staff wonderful! Not one bad encounter which was great.

Visited the marina in 2nd week of July 2022. Didn’t have the problem to walk in to the restaurant for lunch and dinner. Can’t get a buggy as they are fully booked. Tap beer costs $12 AUD per glass. Water costs $5 per bottle. The view is nice. It is an easy walk down hill from Reef View Hotel. There is a free green bus from the marina to the accommodation every 15 minutes.

Whilst there are hundreds of places available to stay on the island, we felt the infrastructure of the marina was unable to cope with the sheer amount of tourists visiting at the time. (non peak time). We spent hours in cues and lines. Long cues at the IGA checkout, lines at the bakery, fish and chip shop, pizza place. We couldn't dine at any of the restaurants without making a booking days in advance and on the night we visited the tavern we couldn't get a table. Whilst we had a wonderful time seeing all the sites, I'd be very hesitant to return during the peak season.

We stopped over at Hamilton Is on a 7 day cruise for a weekend to get decent showers, top up our supplies and get a quite mooring. The bathrooms, showers, laundry and IGA are so close and clean, everything you need. The staff at the marina were helpful in guiding us in and out of our mooring - was a nice little rest between sailing adventures.

The marina is up and over the hill from the resort side. If you don't want to walk the free green line bus will transport you in about 2 minutes. Most eateries and and a few dress shops, chemist, IGA, newsagent, post office, art gallery and adventure tour shops are on this side.

Why don’t the shops open here after dinner? Ppl have nothing to do except go back to their rooms and watch tv or other activities . The perfect time would be to open from 8 until 11 they should even shut in the heat of the day for two hours. Not that there is much to buy here. I came 30 years ago to the opening with Keith Williams and didn’t think much of it then. I regards it even less interesting now. Ok so it will never be st tropez but it could be better than this. Can’t understand why anyone would pay 2,500 a night at Qualia or want to dock their yacht here. Total mystery

If we are staying on the marina side of the island at Hidden Cove, can we use the pools at Catseye Beach?

Whats the best priced snorkling day tour from Hamilton island for two people or closer please
Written October 28, 2017
daughter booked an all day snorkling tour as we were on a cruise. it was a bit pricey but she really enjoyed it.
Written November 17, 2017
Not really... The Marina is a serious of shops/businesses, if you are staying in accommodation on island or renting a yacht then they may store your luggage for you. If you are there in transit or just day tripping, you will have to take your chances on finding somewhere safe to leave it - not so easy in this day and age. If you are day tripping out of the Port of Airlie, there are paid storage lockers in town - ask one of the many tour shops where. Hope this helps.

Qualcuno di voi ha fatto il capodanno sull'isola? Qualche consiglio su dove cenare e quale attivitĂ prenotare?
Written November 12, 2016
Hi There,
I have an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) issued by the Royal Yachting Association in the UK. Will this allow me to hire a speedboat/sportsboat (something more than a dinghy) for the day on Hamilton. ( if it helps, we have a 28ft Formula Power Boat, with twin Magnum inoards in France and I have 12 years skipper experience). If so, what sort of costs would we be talking about ?
Written March 31, 2015
We are staying at Qualia in October. Do you offer a beach drop off for lunch to a private island or Do you offer a dingy for hire. What is the cost of both of these.
Written February 1, 2015
Hi Patricia
That's exciting and we look forward to welcoming you to qualia and Hamilton Island in October. qualia is able to arrange beach drop offs for private picnic lunches and we also have self drive dinghy rentals for half or full days starting from $139. You can book both these when you are.
Warm Whitsunday Regards
