Description:

Billabong Sanctuary is Australia's best interactive wildlife experience....

Billabong Sanctuary is Australia's best interactive wildlife experience. There are interactive talks and feeding shows throughout the day commencing at 9:15 am. At these wildlife presentations you will learn all about the unique characteristics of Australia's native animals. The talks are not only informative but a lot of fun, so will have one of your best experiences at an Australian attraction. The native animals are displayed in their natural habitats of wetlands, eucalypt forest and rainforest. Highlights of the Sanctuary are holding a koala, hugging a wombat, hand feeding a cassowary, holding a small crocodile and wrapping a python around your neck. You will also be able to sit next to a dingo for a photo opportunity and watch feeding of giant estuarine or saltwater crocodiles. The wildlife presentations are repeated in the afternoons so nobody misses out. You can also return the following day with no extra charge. There are picnic areas with free gas barbecues or enjoy a meal at the Blinky Bill Cafe. You can also cool off in our tropically landscaped pool.

This week I re-visited Billabong Sanctuary. It never disappoints!! The staff are always friendly and professional. The grounds are kept immaculately. And the animals are always on their best behaviour!! The new Bilby enclosure looks amazing. Of course the wombat presentation was my favourite part of my visit. Ranger Centaine and assistant Bryson did an amazing job. Ranger Centaine presented... More

Howdy Kerry from the "Ville". Many thanks for your recommendations to fellow Townsvillians - you are a wonderful ambassador for us. We are extremely proud of our newly opened Semi-arid desert habitat featuring bilbies, desert budgerigars, emus and reptiles - as you say "looks amazing". We have also reopened the back section of the park at the same time, closed... More

Feeding the crocs was our highlight. I was here many moons ago and am glad to see it is still a quality day out.

G'day Gypsy Katey, Our international visitors come to the Billabong mainly to hold a koala, hug a wombat and to hand-feed a kangaroo. With our Aussie visitors, the crocs are definitely the highlight. Now we are into spring and with the weather warming up, our crocs are really stating to perform. I hope you saw "Jupiter" our 4.3 metre crocodile... More

Lovely day out with my sister and husband who have lived here over 30 yrs, a real taste of bird, animal, 'pre historic' Crocodiles and able to hold & stroke a Koala! Brill for adults & children alike. Good value for money too, we also had a voucher!

Greetings Len, So glad your sister included the Billabong in "must-to-do-things" in Townsville. We are rated on Trip Advisor as Townsville's best paid attraction after The Strand, Castle Hill and Jezzine Barracks. As you say, great value for money - non stop activities all day, picnic ares, free gas barbecues, swimming pool and most interactive experiences you can use you... More

Nice photos with koalas and wombats, at a price. Croc feeding was worth a look. But it's a bit dire beyond that.

Hi Mark from Brisbane, Glad to hear you have photos of your children with koalas - something to treasure in years to come. Billabong Sanctuary is the major sponsor of the Koala Hospital on Magnetic Island with a percentage of the sale of koala photos going into their care and rehabilitation. I am sorry to hear that we did not... More

We went to the Billabong Sanctuary in hopes to hold our first Koala and that is exactly what we got to do. They are so adorable! All the other animals were interesting too. Shadow was definitely one of my favorites. We were there on holiday so there were a lot of people but well worth it to do the tour.

G'day Casey from North Carolina, Great to hear that Billabong Sanctuary played a role in your dream of holding a koala. You know the only two states in Australia where you can hold a koala are Queensland and South Australia. Shadow, the Red-tailed black cockatoo sits on a perch and loves to be fed sunflower seeds which are found in... More

We saw the crock feeding and fed the kangaroos ourselves. I love feeding them little guys. This park has way to many ducks and geese. Especially geese as they are real pushy about getting fed. They should get rid of these and have more uniquely Australian animals.

Howdy Widget-Remo, Thank you for your review and what an enjoyable experience to hand feed our free-ranging kangaroos. I totally agree with your comment about the ducks and geese. The ducks are native Whistling ducks and the geese are native Magpie geese. They are fly-ins and come to the Sanctuary due to our wetlands as Townsville is in drought conditions.... More

A dream come true. I got to hold a koala, pet a dingo and pet a wombat. Watched them feed the crocodiles, fed turtles and fed kangaroos. It's an amazing place and the staff are fun and knowledgeable. Would visit again definitely.

We are locals and had a cracker of a day with our 3 yr old grandsons from Brisbane who got to see some monster crocs as well as all the other great animals there. Staff are really dedicated and passionate about what they do. It's not Australia Zoo but you get a whole lot closer to the action. Brilliant.

Greetings Paul from the "Ville", So good to have such a great review from a local with the description of a "cracker of a day". We certainly have some monster crocs with Bully weighing in at 750 kgs and Jupiter, caught on Townsville Strand beach at 500 kgs. Being a wildlife sanctuary and not a zoo with the big crowds,... Not quite a zoo with the main attraction being rescued salt water crocs. All the staff know their stuff and are passionate about the environment. Great to mix with wallabies that roam freely and will feed from you.
