What a great little find in downtown Townsville. I will admit that I was not expecting a lot to be in this museum, but was totally surprised and pleasantly happy that I had stopped in during some down time. The museum has several focus areas, each laid out in sections along the waterfront in Palmer St. The first focuses WW2... More

No A/C, so go when it's cool. Well worth a morning or afternoon if you're into history and boats. very interesting Yongala exhibit as well, esp. if you plan to dive the wreck.

I was particularly interested in the decisive Coral Sea battle in the second world war between the American and Japanese navies.

This is a very small museum but it was interesting, it doesn't take long to go through but when the weather is raining it is a quaint place to visit. Not sure if young kids would like but older people should enjoy. worth a look see if you like Maritime things

Open early! Well organised museum with many stories of the wars, lots of great photographs and a film room, a real ships porthole in the wall that opens and closes, uniforms, social stories of the people and their personal anecdotes, newspaper articles etc. Worth a look , then lunch at one the many restaurants on Palmer Street.

Interesting stories about Townsville women in WW2. Model board are great to look at too. Not many interactive points for kids, but plenty to look at. Though outdated, the video of Yongala wreck is worth watching
