Totally disappointed with my visit to Townsville

I was excited for my first ever visit to Townsville where I intended to spend my tourist dollars and within the first hour of visiting I received an $82 parking ticket for parking my tiny electric scooter while I purchased a take away coffee and endured several extremely rude local folk, so within hours I’d cancelled my caravan site booking and left Townsville altogether.
Just don’t go there unless you have to !!

Happy returning visitors

June 2019, after four years we have been able to return to Townsville for a relaxing holiday. Our first visit was in 2003 with all our children (4 in total) after that we have been coming for years and always stayed in the Aquarius on the Strand.
Townsville is a wonderful place to visit as a middle aged couple or with children, there is lots to do and plenty of eateries. For the shopaholics there is plenty, we visited this time two of the known shopping centres; Stocklands and Castletown. The latter our favourite, clean, a great variety of shops and very friendly people in general. Eating out for lunch or coffee and cake we highly recommend “the Carvery” excellent service and fantastic prices.
Staying on the Strand means plenty of walks along the beachfront and although difficult for my wife (wheelchair bound) it is possible to enjoy the scenery to the fullest. All eateries along the Strand are worthwhile a visit; The Watermark - beautiful food, not the cheapest but value for money. Try their pizzas as well you won’t be disappointed. Last night 22 June we were spoilt by the fireworks finishing a great day along the beach, filled with BBQ competition, classic car competition.
Last thing, we’ll done Townsville after the devastation of the recent flooding, you as a town/city have shown your resilience that requires respect from out of town visitors - thank you once again for a lovely stay, your hospitality, your endurance and for sharing your beautiful city you call home.

Building ok but nothing else there

Not sure why this had made it to trip advisor as it is just a rather nice old building but nothing else there. Parking can be difficult depending on time of day as not much street parking and always roadworks so parking is often minimal. Nothing to see inside building so rather a let down unless you are madly into architecture perhaps but even then there is better in Townsville

Attracted by the fountain

The Townsville City Council is quite big! A statue with a fountain stands near the pillars. The pillars leads to the entrance.

The building itself is massive and attractive.

There is a lot of parking on the street.

Worthwhile to see!
