We arrived in to "Rocky" about 10 minutes before the Sunday closing time, but the two volunteer staff went out of their way to tell me the best options available, the best way to visit Mt Archer (called "Nurim" by the Indigenous) and how to get to our accommodation. Plus maps to assist our touring. The range of tourism-related postcards was extremely disappointing, comprising mostly the work of gifted amateurs and ignoring the historic buildings dotting the city and even the Fitzroy River. Visited on Thursday 8th October. We called in there to pick up a map and some brochures, staff were very helpful. Well worth stopping there when you come to Rocky.

Unfortunately the centre was closed due to Covid19 but there were pamphlets available outside the door. we did take the necessary pic beside the spire though

Opened at 9 on the dot and met by a genial gent. We were really just after maps and brochures- which they had. While Rockhampton could do with upgrading the centre (smaller than I expected) it had all we needed as an information centre and I am sure any questions could have been answered if we had any. There was a online survey on the way out which is easy to participate in- I suggest more free camping areas for stop overs. Just Around the corner from the botanical gardens which is a great spot for picnic or rest in the shade. While it also has a free zoo- I chose to refuse to go as a conscientious objector. …
