This is the 2nd booking we made with Tropical Journeys, the first being the Calypso snorkelling tours the day before. The booking went smoothly and they gave us a discount for booking 2 tours together. We get another 5% discount when we book on line.
A wonderful new Mercedes van came to pick the 4 of us up at our hotel on the dot at 7.30am. The driver & guide alighted & introduced himself as Kerry. There were 8 of us on this van and we were all very comfortably seated. Throughout the trip Kerry knew all our names & spoke to us like we were real people not some pre- recorded commentary. He also has a great sense of humour. He was very knowledgable about the rainforest, the animals, the reef, the ecosystems. We learnt a lot from this tour.
We went on the crocodile sighting river tour & saw 2 crocs, a Hebron, some Burramundi fish & some wild orchids growing on mangrove trees. We then drove up to the Cape of Tribulation to the lookout & walked along the beach. Had morning tea of fresh fruits & muffins with tea & coffee under the canopy of large trees with wild turkeys wandering near us hoping for a bite. We are not allowed to feed any wildlife. We went on a 45 min rainforest walk & Kerry was very good at pointing out the plant life. We also learnt about the destruction of the ecosystem by the cyclones, the wild pigs, cane toads. Then it was lunch at a very nice restaurant in the rainforest. After lunch we visited the Daintree ice cream shop. On the way out, we were treated to an road show by an amazingly large Cassowary bird by the road who was posing for us, then ducking into the bush then coming out again for another curtain call. We were about 2 metres way from the bird who are rarely sighted. Reluctantly we had to move off to the Mossman Gorge for another walk. The day ended at 4.45pm and we visited 2 heritage sites in 2 days. What a treat !
