Botanic Gardens are always a great spot for a walk in most cities. The Cairns Botanic Gardens though has the added interest of a bit of history. They have creatively turned huge old fuel tanks, from the 2nd World War, which are adjacent to the gardens, into art galleries and performance locations.

I love this place. Perfect spot for a picnic or walk. Loads of beautiful native plants and fruit trees. Lots of mosquitos though so bring spray!

We have visited Cairns twice and both times the Botanic Gardens have been high on our list to visit. In fact we visited them twice each trip. This time they were the first place we went and the very last place as they are very close to the Cairns airport. While we were there tour operated by a volunteer was... More

This garden is a delight. Well set out with places to sit. You could take a picnic lunch though there is a cafeteria . Cafeteria is ok but nothing special.

Unfortunately we stopped here very briefly on our way back to the Hotel after a day in Kuranda. Wish we had more time. The gardens are huge! You need hours to see everything including the information centre etc.

Most of the gardens are in the shade, so no matter what time of year in the tropics it is a recommended visit. Lovely garden restaurant open during garden opening hours - surrounded by the shaded gardens.

We were impressed with the variety and large area devoted to gardens. The gardens are well worth a visit and at least half a day is needed to take advantage of all aspects. We especially enjoyed watching the butterflies as they fluttered from one beautiful flower to another. You can use the bus service to and from the gardens, but get... More

What a gem this place is just 4 km north of the city centre. Such a fabulous array of species of plants. A beautiful greenhouse with a huge variety of orchids, and butterflies dusted throughout the complex. A great place to wander, ponder, relax and just take in the marvels of our creation. Thoroughly recommend.

Having felt fleeced with paying an arm and a leg for many of the activities in and around Cairns, it was a joy to discover the Botanic Gardens (free!!!!). The greenhouse was full of butterflies, the bush tucker section was interesting, the landscaping was extraordinary. Coming from a Mediterranean climate, the opportunity to see a diverse range of tropical plants... More

We didn't have a lot of time but the gardens were amazing. Blazing with colour, the butterfly and orchid house was stunning, thoroughly enjoyed our visit. 10 out 10!
