Skyrail have signage saying they’re open 7 days a week. We planned our trip for a Monday only to arrive and find they don’t run on Monday’s. We did however manage to squeeze in a trip before our flight home. Skyrail have signage saying you can book a one way trip with them and a return trip with Scenic railway. This didn’t work as they only offer a limited number of seats for scenic railway so we had to make a separate booking with them which was more trouble than it was worth. We were told there were busses from the scenic railway station to bring us back to our car at Skyrail. What they didn’t say is busses need to be pre booked with a tour company. My partner and I and a group from Scotland were left stranded at the Scenic railway station with no way to get back to our cars at Skyrail. The trip itself was pretty with scenic stops along the way. If you’re scared of heights though, it may not be for you. I loved the village of Kuranda but if you go up on Skyrail and back with scenic railway, it may not give you much time to explore. If I had this to do again, I’d only go on Skyrail in the wet season when the waterfall was gushing, otherwise I’d drive straight to Kuranda. Issues with booking between Skyrail and scenic railway and getting stranded at the end of the trip took the shine off the whole day.…

Review of: Kuranda Scenic Railway Day Trip from Cairns
An enjoyable day out and a must do while in Cairns. We did the scenic railway up and sky rail back, with 3 hours in Kuranda. The scenic railway was really interesting, with great history and stunning views. We were lucky enough to have a window seat, without that it wouldn’t have been anywhere near such a great experience. The seating is quite tight for a 90 minute train journey also. Once you get to Kuranda, you really need to plan your time well. We spent a lot of time trying to find a good lunch spot, and as everyone gets off the train at the same time, it’s a bit crowded until after lunch. We chose to do Birdworld ($18 entry with boarding pass discount) which was highly enjoyable, although smaller than I expected. After that, we were getting close to our return time. We had noticed a rainforest walk nearby (Jumrum walk) but only had 15 minutes and didn’t really get a good experience as we had to turn around shortly into the walk. The sky rail back - we arrived 20 mins early and were still able to board. Sky rail is a unique experience gliding over the rainforest canopy, however it is missing the voice over from the train. Regardless, what a way to end the day! The views were phenomenal, amazing!…

very highly hyped but did not live upto expectations. the train ride was rather dry. skyrail was better with some few good views and the stops were pretty informative. Only gives you a teaser of the rainforest though, and you would be better off with a short hike at much less the cost. Kuranda is rather commercial…
