The Atherton tablelands from Cairns
Mar 2021
Being the tourist with our own car, we left Cairns to do the Atherton Tablelands, travelling via Mareeba, Atherton, Herberton, Millaa Millaa which included the falls, Malanda, Yungaburra with Lake Each & Barrine, before returning to Cairns. With numerous stops, it made for a full day, meandering around towns, viewing surrounds countryside from lockouts, falls, and National Trust locations made for a full day.

Great Destination
Dec 2019
Lots to do when had enough of Cairns. Beautiful landscape and you do need a car to make the most of it. Do the full tour around the water falls. Best after recent rain. Look for Platypus, sadly I didn't see one.

A full day with Barefoot tours will stay with us forever. Well organised, an amazing tour guide, Rowan, full of knowledges, stories, energy and fun made us decided will be back again.

Love the tablelands
Sep 2020
Went up here for a look and wasn't disappointed. Mareeba is a great place to visit with several things to see. If you get a chance have a meal at the anthill hotel in Mareeba and the visitor information centre in Mareeba, both really good places for a nice meal and a visit.

The drive is a real white knuckle adventure

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to drive through a series of hair pin bends, the road leading up to the waterfalls will answer that for you. Take motion sickness tablets before you go! Worth it when you get there.

An absolute visit
Jul 2020
Most peoples first experience is driving the fabulously twisty Gillies Range Rd from Cairns to Atherton, but there is so much more to it, its huge, stretching from around Mt Molloy to Herberton & a bit more. So there are a few coast to mountain road climbs on and off the tableland.

Mareeba comes from Kuranda with its scenic rail, markets, Barron Gorge and Birdworld

Atherton comes from Cairns with the massive Fig Trees & Lake Barrine

Herberton comes from Innisfail with lots of Waterfalls including the famous Millaa Millaa.

Its worth staying on the tableland a few days as there is lots to explore.

So much to see and do
Jul 2020
A day on the Atherton tablelands offers many places to visit. Tea and coffee plantations, historic villages, beautiful walks and waterfalls. A full day out and there is so much to see.

Great solace to self drive
Mar 2020
My friends and I had the most amazing time and would definitely go back. We spent a few days driving around and did Lake Barrine, Tarzili Lakes, Millaa Millaa falls, Paronella park tour, Skywalk and Josephine falls. I hope I spelt those names correctly. All were incredible. I would highly recommend!

Great, even during monsoon season!

A visit to Atherton Tablelands requires wheels. I was fortunate enough to have hired a campervan which kept me dry during very wet peirods. Viisitng at this time of year enabled the beautiful waterfalls to be seen at there best and the landscapre looking very lush.

Offers a great contrast to the coastal landscapes.

Tablelands Excursion
Feb 2020
We spent the day with relatives who drove us around the various attractions, which the Fig tree and the Flame tree avenue, a memorial to the military who fell at Afghanistan. Afternoon tea was taken at a tea plantation, with the most delicious scones.
A tropical downpour was experienced as we had a pub lunch in Atherton.
