The Atherton Tablelands aptly named as everything grows here from Coffee to Fruits of every type plus a thriving dairy industry producing gourmet yoghurts and organic products. People visiting Cairns should hire a car to travel up the range thru Kuranda and stop at the many open door farms along the way. Mango Wine, Coffee, Safari Parks...the list is endless..Atherton... You're planning a trip to Far North Queensland or already there, visit the Atherton Tableland, about an hour and half inland from Cairns and Port Douglas and you've climbed to an elevation over 700m on your drive up and down the scenery is spectacular! THe climate a few degrees cooler than the coast and not as humid - very pleasant!... More

It rained during our holiday so we skipped the reef (sadly) and the cable car as visibility was poor and spontaneously hired a car and headed inland to the tablelands instead. So glad we did! Lots to see and do with wonderful scenery (when it wasn't raining!) We grabbed a map of local attractions from our hotel and spent two... More

The Atherton Tablelands turned our families 9 week caravan adventure into 10 weeks! There is just so much to see and do throughout this area that we could've added another 2 weeks and still not seen it all. Our highlights, Paronella park, Skywalk and all the amazing waterfalls! If you're visiting Queensland, don't just stick to the coast, this area... More

As a Cairns local I only go there 1 or 2 times a year but always love it. The temperature is a bet coler and the scenery and flora are amazing.

This is an absolutely beautiful region abundant in breathtaking scenery and waterfalls. It is full of places to visit both natural attractions as well as man made attractions such as cheese makers and chocolate makers.

We took the kids up into the tablelands to do some bush walking on a rainy day. Cathedral Fig, Moto Crater, Curtain Fig, a few waterfalls etc. All of them were absolutely spectacular and would recommend them to anyone (a lot of them were pretty easy walking too). What we didn't count on though was the leeches. I'm not sure... More

Spent a day exploring the Atherton Tablelands on my recent visit to Cairns. First stop was Kuranda and the and views of the Barron Gorge. Then off to Mareeba, Atherton and Herberton. We didn't have time for anything else and there are quite a few other things to see. Well worth the drive.

The car trip from the Daintree to the Atherton tablelands was just stunning. Within such a short distance there is so much diverse landscape. You can see it all from the termite mounds, the sugar cane, the banana plantations, the granite boulders, and the avocado trees to the coffee beans at Mareeba - simply amazing. There is also something special... More
