About Seastar Cruises Reef Day Trips
Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines the outer Great Barrier Reef with a coral cay island. In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot.

We booked the Michaelmas Cay & Hastings Reef Day Cruise from Cairns. The meeting point was easy to find and the crew were very friendly and helpful. The Seastar only takes small groups, which makes the trip very enjoyable. The stinger suits and snorkel gear provided were in

The Guy's & Girl's at Sea Star really looked after us! We saw a lot of wildlife and even a Turtle, the GT's were a bonus. Small group made it a much more personalised cruise. Would highly recommend to anyone, but you must be a competent snorkeler. Robert T. Sydney.

We went to Cairns because the Great Barrier Reef was on my daughter's scuba diving bucket list. We selected SeaStar because of their good reviews. Six days before the Saturday cruise they informed us the trip was cancelled because of low enrollment. They had listed a number of

Hello caroagae2, Thank you for your review, we see you are supporting your daughter who posted a review on the very same subject one week ago. STAY AWAY FROM SEASTAR!!!! Poor business practices! Your daughter had a medical issue that raised serious concerns and required clarification. Your daughter is a qualified certified diver, having completed a dive course some years ago, part of that course are the health considerations required for diving. As a certified diver your daughter is aware of the medical requirements for diving when an issue arises after passing the course and because of this, medical questionnaires are not sent to certified divers prior to the day of travel however all the information is found on our website. Your daughter was asked for proof that she had dived since the operation, this would have been sufficient. Certified divers are required to carry a logbook detailing their dives listing location, depth, time etc, so that when going to a new dive location the company offering the dive can check their experience, skill and suitability to dive from these records,” Your daughter did not have this.” There was no way we could confirm what she said. Safety is a priority which we at Seastar Cruises take very seriously. As for the Dive Master not wanting to take only one person, Dive Masters are more than happy to take only one as they can enjoy a more personal dive and we as a company would have preferred her to dive rather than refund the scuba diving portion of this booking which had been done.. As for your comment: “Would SeaStar have made a different decision if she had been a young man rather than a grey-haired woman?” I can assure you that the three women, the First Mate, the Office Supervisor and the Operations Manager, all ladies, who were directly involved and ultimately responsible for this decision could not disagree more.

Overall this is one of the best experiences I've had while scuba diving and snorkeling. The lunch was fantastic and they really seemed to enjoy what they do out on the water. In addition, I loved to hear about how they are partnering up in order to keep the reefs alive by using

Hi Echezz, Thank you for taking the time to post such a great review. It is great to hear that you really enjoyed your day out with us. Yes our Coral Tree Nursery is a highlight of the glass bottom boat tour. We regularly post photos to our instragram and facebook page of the live coral and the new growth that it is producing. There is regular maintenance taken out on our Coral Tree Nursery and the crew are very enthusiastic about explaining what having this nursery involves.
