    Confusing layout
Fabulous attraction with large viewing windows and great variety of creatures. Information and funny educational talks. Finding the Oceanarium was difficult as it didn’t connect to the other Ground Floor attractions. If you are on the ground floor you need to take the escalator to the fist floor and traverse that and travel down to the ground floor again to find it. Surely an interconnecting passageway between the ground floor attractions would make more sense. The map is not user friendly and the signage is poor.
Hi there! Thank you for your feedback; we’ll be sure to pass this onto the appropriate departments. And thank you for visiting us here at the Cairns Aquarium 😄🦈🐠 We’re glad you enjoyed our daily presentations 😊🐢🐠

    Ripper GBR aquarium
Mum: really good aquarium - I normally get bored pretty fast but this aquarium was great! Lots of zones and I particularly enjoyed the reef and ocean zones. Massive sting rays were great too. Kid : it was cool but normal. it didn’t stand out as an aquarium but crocs were cool but it was just an aquarium I’ve never found one that wasn’t fun though and I recommend it.
Thank you for this lovely review! We’re so happy you enjoyed your visit here at the Cairns Aquarium! 😄🐠 The Cairns aquarium is home 16000 native animals, to the tallest deep reef tank in the southern hemisphere, the largest freshwater billabong display in Australia and! a 1.5 million litre oceanarium. 😄🐠 We believe our facility is an incredible place to visit to learn all about our native wildlife and ecosystems here in Cairns. Definitely a stop off point to learn, before heading into the wild. We provide an educational and immersive experience for all guests; providing much needed awareness for how important our wildlife and these parts of the world are and how we can all work together to conserve them. 🐠⭐️ Your ticket price also helps us care for our wildlife and their habitats so thank you for visiting and have a fish-tastic day! 😊🐠

    Best Aquarium
Been to a lot of aquariums but this is one of my favourite!. The diversity of marine life were amazing it feels like your at the Great Barrier Reef. The colours on the corals were divine and spectacular. The most touching part was the turtle rehabilitation tour, it helps fund the organisation that rescues and treat different species of turtles (extremely recommend this).Highly recommended this place for people wish not to snorkel/swim out in the ocean. It feels like you're already within the Great Barrier Reef.
Wow thank you for leaving this lovely review! We are extremely proud to be able to represent the stunning biodiversity that is found within the Great Barrier Reef in a way that is accessible for everyone even those that do not wish to visit or cannot make the trip to the reef. We are pleased that you had such a pleasurable experience on your visit and we hope to welcome you back again soon 🐠🦈

    Fantastic family experience
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Cairns Aquarium. The facility is very well planned and maintained with interesting and engaging displays, and educational/entertaining talks throughout the day. Staff are passionate about their work and it clearly shows. With a focus on the GBR, we were well-prepped and excited for our visit to the reef in the following days. There is a lot to see and immerse yourself in, kids of all ages will love it. A must-do for visitors to Cairns!
Thank you so much for leaving this lovely review! We are pleased to hear that you had an excellent experience throughout your trip to the cairns Aquarium! Good luck out on the reef hopefully you can spot some incredible creatures! 🪸🐠

    Enjoyed our visit!
Could pass up a visit to the aquarium on our Cairns holiday. Great central location not far from our accommodation in Cairns city. We are from Melbourne so by comparison, Cairns aquarium is a lot more spacious and didn't feel as overwhelmingly busy even though it was popular. Some great exhibits and set ups for the sea life and other animals. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend.

    Amazing awesome experience
Cairns Aquarium is the best that we ever visited. We had the most amazing, awesome experience watching the fish feeding (including sharks) inside the 360-degree Oceanarium. Other attractions that we also love are the10-meter Deep Reef Tank, 20-meter underwater tunnel, mangrove boardwalk, and Australia’s largest freshwater exhibit and more…
Hi there! We are so happy that you had a fintastic time. Hope to sea you again soon to experience more of our incredible fat north QLD ecosystems🐡🐢🪸🐊

Definitely worthy of a visit in Cairns
An aquarium that is equal or better than the one at Monterey CA or Baltimore MD. Plenty of presentation for the underwater plants and creatures from the ocean, particularly those of the Great Barrier Reef next to Cairns. The feeding periods were a hit.
Hi There! Thank you so much for your amazing review. Glad to sea that you had an incredible time. Hope you’ll be back to visit again soon🐠🐊🪸🦈

This lovely aquarium was an unexpected delight. It was entertaining and educational. My favourite display was the marine tunnel. I sat there for about half an hour watching sea life swim beside me and overhead. It was nice to see it so well visited by all ages yet not too crowded.

    Excellent aquarium!
I am an education volunteer at public aquarium in the US and the Cairns Aquarium is top tier! Exhibits are beautifully and logically presented with great educational information about the aminals on display. The variety of fish, turtles, crustaceans, etc. is fantastic and the live presentations are both entertaining and enlightening! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

I gave the tour 5* purely based on the tour guide we had, Daniel. He was super informative, engaging and clearly knew what he was talking about. We took our daughters 3yrs (just had her birthday) and 4.5yrs old. They both loved it!
We paid for the appetiser and drink option only and were happy we didn’t pay for a main meal as weren’t impressed by the food served. Highly recommend as it was a great experience overall.

We are both delighted that we decided to participate in this amazing experience.
Guided by the warm, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable Christine, we spent our time behind the scenes witnessing just some of the amazing work that goes on.
One highlight was Turtle hospital. We were delighted to see all three current patients well on their way to a full recovery, thanks to the dedication and passion of these amazing staff members.
We were assisted by the lovely Jenny when we fed the sting rays. An indescribable experience and I now think sting rays are simply gorgeous. Jenny was also an incredible source of knowledge. Maya also deserves a special mention - she showed us a big dish of sea monkeys before she fed them to the jellyfish that they’re breeding. Fascinating .
We even got to witness Jenny and Maya scuba diving into the huge tanks to feed everyone. 🐠
Lunch by the huge fish tank was a lovely ending to our adventure.
Thank you to the wonderful staff at Cairns Aquarium.

Great reviews from TA Reviewers took us through the doors.

No OAP discount on the tickets. Lots of different fishes etc to see in a very tourist friendly enviroment.

The first Reef Fish Feed of the morning was spoilt for us by a not very good female presenter who finished every sentence with the "OK" and went into far toooooo much detail about the firmation of coral reefs. Us oldies know most of it and the kids were not interested.....we all wanted to see the fish bring fed.

The second Shark/Rays Fish Feed was much better. Light, full of interesting facts and he did not drone on for 15/20 minutes about trivia.

Enjoyed it all, except the lady presenters drone.

I wasn't going to share my opinions, bit you keep emailing me asking to leave a review so here we are.

We went on the twilight evening tour, the aquarium is gorgeous beautifully set out and lots to see. We ended up wandering ahead of the group away from the guide and it made it much more enjoyable for us.

She was a nice girl, but a little more education could be provided, to stop the misinformation.
A guest shouldn't have to he the one to explain how crocodiles grow in size ( by available food, not by age) and to have her tell the guests how incredible deadly FRESHWATER Crocs are. Salties yes, Freshies no.
The one thing that bothered me was the Blue Tangs ( or "Dory fish" as she consistently referred to them as) Their populations are being decimated in the wild for pets and displays. They don't breed well in captivity. I asked about it, and she got someone offended and put on a sad face and little girl voice "well we have a lot of them, and I hope they haven't come from the wild"
Your guides need to be able to answer questions like that. Not everyone is blissfully unaware of how animals get on display

If you go to Cairns I definetly recommend you visit the aquarium, it's a perfect rainy day attraction. We went on a wednesday and it was realtivley busy but not crowded. Apparently the restaurant in the aquarium is great however we didn't eat there. They have alot of information on the animals and also a petting tank, the guy who was at the petting tank was very nice and told us about shark eggs which was very interesting, also we petted a starfish. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience would probably visit again.

We took the Dining with the Sharks experience. Horrible. Please put your money to better utilisation. We paid 300 AUD for two people and it was not even worth 50 aud.

Extremely waste of money and time.

Hello! Uh oh, we’re surprised to hear you didn’t enjoy this experience given the vast majority of our visitors love this exclusive package. As it’s the only opportunity for guests to dine inside the aquarium! We’d like to investigate further and follow up on your experience to find out more information as to why you didn’t enjoy your experience. If you could email us some more details such as when your visit was, and what parts of the experience specifically you didn’t enjoy that would be very helpful. Thank you 😊 Our contact email is reservations@cairnsaquarium.com.au Kind regards, Cairns Aquarium Social Media Team

Break your visits to the Reef and the Daintree Rainforest with several hours at this new and very well laid out aquarium. Lectures almost every half hour complement the viewing, and children as well as adults get involved in the Q&A periods that follow. The tunnel with fish swimming over and around you is a visual and photographic treat. The aquarium is growing as new fishlife are added. Supplement the visit with lunch or a snack on the attractive terrace of the attached cafe restaurant.

Chose to visit the cairns aquarium and have a date night on our second night in cairns. Wonderful choice.

The tour by twilight was very informative and helped us recognise fish and other animals we would see all throughout our stay in the area. I learnt so many fun facts about animals and further relay them to the rest of the family. The lady who ran our tour was very enthusiastic about her job, it was quite contagious.

The dine with the sharks, which is held in the oceanarium was lovely, the buffet style dinner which was catered had a wide variety of delicious foods. I didn’t want to stop eating.

During the dinner, our tour lady came and let us know some fun facts about the rays, sharks and other marine life swimming around us while we ate.

As someone who has lived and worked in Far North Queensland their whole life, I found the Aquarium to be very educational. The building is designed incredibly well. Your visit starts out with fresh water species and transitions to salt water as you journey through. The information and species on display depict all the different stages of our ecosystem and are visually stunning. Along the way there are many things to read, tunnels to climb through and life sized statues to admire. Visiting here would be a rewarding experience for families, school groups or anyone who is interested in the environment. Of course, a huge thank you to the staff as well, their friendly disposition made our experience all the more enjoyable from check in until we departed.

Our Great Barrier Reef Tour was cancelled due to cyclone weather and so we hit the Cairns Aquarium instead. We loved our half day visit. We loved the variety of fish and other marine animals they had there. The staff was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the two presentations we experienced. Even though we were disappointed with not going out to the reef itself, this was the very next best thing! I would highly recommend this venue if the open ocean is not for you, or don’t feel up to that kind of excursion. Well worth the money!
