I spent weeks researching which tour to take into the rainforest. At first, I was concerned about this tour because it had not been reviewed on many websites and the website itself seemed old fashioned. But I could not find any other company (besides Wait-a-While) that conducts these kinds of deep rainforest tours, and I didn't want to be sitting on a bus all day following a well-beaten path and getting very little exposure to the details of the forest itself.

I finally e-mailed the company a whole list of questions and received an answer within 24 hours, each about a paragraph long. I even bluntly asked why I should believe that they are a great tour and why I should choose them. I was really happy with the in depth answers and decided to take a chance on my possibly ONLY visit to this prehistoric region in my entire life!

I have to say, NO REGRETS... I originally wanted a more hiking intensive program - none actually exist, anyway - but at the end of the day realized that I would have seen a tiny fraction of what I actually saw had I chosen something more walking based. There still was a lot of walking, though nothing rigorous. Saw dozens of trees, several animal spotting (snakes, kangaroos, special birds, etc...). Spent hours undisturbed in the rainforest and less time wandering through nearby bushland.

Tour guide was great! Personable, friendly, knowledgeable... Trust me, going with this company is not a risk. I heard from other tourists about their experience with some of the "bus" groups that go further north into the actual Danbulla and they barely spent any time in the forest, I think it was something like 30 or 45 minutes. I got to spend ALL day among the giants, the stinging trees, coiled vines, and friendly people. I have over 500 gorgeous photos. We had lunch in an isolated part of the forest, by a small running river. We sat on little stools on the bank, big prehistoric Iranio Palms towering over us. The smallness of the group is also fantastic. Luckily, we got some fantastic super-friendly and jokey people.

It's worth the price. In fact, I thought it to be extremely reasonable. Wait-a-while charges wayyyy more for a similar (although more animal focused) trip.

Thanks Wilderness Eco Safari!!!

What a great day of quiet, awesome views! Lovely view and history of the city, great up close and personal tour of the rainforest. Wonderful spotting of animals and birds. Kevin is a great tour guide. Funny, informative, passionate about nature. This tour includes lovely tea, a homemade lunch in a natural outdoor setting and an afternoon ice cream treat at a family owned business! We loved spending the day with an Aussie, learning about his family, his neighbors and his country. Great family outing... you will not be disappointed!

I cannot belive that our trip yesterday was the same one as described by Polarbear 70.
Having spent many months planning our family holiday we decided to book with Wilderness Eco Safaris and our day was unique! Steve has obviously spent a lot of time and effort on the route, my family and I thought it was absolutely brilliant. We were shown paths and tracks that have never made it onto any maps, his knowledge of the plants and animals was huge, he could answer any question you ask, and he would listen to what you had to say too! It just showed how much he enjoys his job, and the way he runs his buisnes is incredibly proffesional. The majority of the day was spent in totally unspoilt rain forest off track with no other vechiles in sight. Our group was made up of seven people which is the maximum he will take on the tour so you werent struggling to hear him from the back of the crowd and you always got a clear view of what he was showing you. I'm travelling with my husband and our two teenage boys who were inspired by the trip the fact they said they had an awesome day says it all.

We had an excellent day and we would reccomend this to anyone who is wondering about the rainforest tours!!

Many thanks Steve.

If you're not an experienced traveller or have never visited the rainforest this would be a very good way to see it. Kevin is a very personable and knowledgeable guide with a great sense of humour who includes everyone in the conversation. If you want to learn about the rainforest, he's your man. The small size adds to the experience.
If you have been to the rainforest before or live in the country, this may not be what you're after. It is not good for tall people (I'm 6'2") especially if you're at the rear of the Landcruiser as you will miss most of what is going on in front of you because the windshield and driver are lower than the seats in the rear so you will be looking at the roof or crouching into the isle to look ahead. It is very cramped and the men all had to put their legs in the isles and turn their bodies 90 degrees to see out the side windows. The foam in the seats is just about worn out so it was uncomfortable but a new vehicle is on its way in two weeks so hopefully that problem will be fixed.
We spent 10 hours on our journey and eight and a half of them were inside the vehicle. Not too many animals along the way which is why we came to Australia and booked the excursion. We saw more in the city of Cairns. We had hoped to get a chance to walk around in the rainforest but were limited to a couple of very short walks.
As I said, a great trip for people not accustomed to the great outdoors but very pricey for a backpacker ($165 per person) who hopes to have a real wilderness experience.

I would love to say that I enjoyed this tour, as it sounds really interesting. But Steve left us off his itinerary and didn't pick us up after we had a confirmed booking, so we were not able to go. We were left hanging and our resort host had to scramble to book us on another rainforest tour that day. Oh well. Make sure to double and triple confirm your reservation, I suppose.

Kevin came and picked us (group of 3) from the hotel and dropped us off at the hotel. All I can say is that this tour of the rainforest and outback near to Cairns was put simply perfect.

We had an absolute great time. The 4WD Betsy 2 was great and comfortable ride. Kevin is an extremely knowledgable guide who shared a lot of Australiana with us. He is extremely friendly.

There was an excellent light morning tea and lunch prepared by Kevin and his wife.

I would highly recommend booking a tour with Kevin.

Great tour of the Rainforest and surrounding water falls. Some offroad driving on private tracks with no other people around. Lunch out in near a secluded stream in the rainforest. Kevin was awesome with his local knowledge and ability to customise the tour for all on board. Would strongly recommend this day trip for all.

Kevin the owner operator is a well informed and amiable guide. He takes you off the beaten track deep into the rainforest. You travel down roads restricted to license holders and rangers only, have lunch alongside a billabong and really experience the true Australian outback. Great experience for all and would highly recommend it for families

During our weeklong stay, we hoped to stay away from "tourist traps" and explore the beautiful region. Kevin delivered this and then some on his one day tour. After promptly picking us up, we drove through areas that words cannot describe. Kevin was excellent with the range of ages on board, and always paid attention to our children's questions. We learned so much about the rainforest, history, vegetation and area within those hours, we had hoped the tour could continue! We have been traveling AU for almost 2 months, and this day was THE best for all of us. We are bringing back home great memories and excellent knowledge of the rainforest. We hope he does a 2 day tour in the future, as we will look forward to it on our next visit. Make this a priority (over other cheezy touristy spots!) and have a day with Kevin. You won't be disappointed.
