I’m sure the shops and dining are great but what is the use if you can’t find parking? I also was harassed by a tenant who placed her vehicle at the back of mine to stop me driving away because I overstayed the time limit. If David Jones has closed, other shops must be hurting. Sort it out and I’ll return.

The James Street precinct is where it is at in Brisbane. The leafy streets are filled with great places to shop as well as plenty of different food choices. There is also a great market to pick up meat, seafood, fresh fruit and veggies and deli items. Highly recommend you visit when in Brisbane or stay there.

I was harassed by the man with the umbrella when trying to find a shop in James Street We were threatened with towing because we wanted to go and find the shop we were looking for. I gave up and will never shop in that area. We had just been to lunch at the Gasworks where there is free parking for 2 hours. I won't do lunch ever again in James St, the parking is a nightmare and I don't want to get towed. This means that I will also not shop anywhere in James St again. Sorry to the my hairdresser, James St Markets, the kitchen and nuts shops and speciality shops but if I can't park...I can't shop. I won't be going back.

Love all the shops in the area. BUT beware the parking really lets it down. You can park and shop on one side of the street but the minute you cross the road, you are deemed as having left the premises! Came back to find my car had been towed within 15 minutes of our arrival!! Not a favourable experience with an out of town visitor in 'tow'. Certainly curtailed our shopping and therefore the retailers lost out too. I will take my visitors shopping elsewhere in future.

I would strongly advise people to look else where in Brisbane for a shopping and dinning experience . Parking is a nightmare, you can't wonder though the shops or have a bite to eat without your car been towed or damaged. The property service company are rude and unhelpful.

Just commenting on the person who went to Harvey's and had their car towed... I too believe there is some kind of extortion racket going on with that particular towing company and the people who employ them. Last year I parked at the rear of the Fortitude Valley post office they have designated parking back there the building and the doors that face the parking area all look like it belongs to the post office went and collected our mail from the box 6 minutes max away from the car came back and the car had been towed... that company prey on you they watch and wait he was sitting over the road... apparently the last two spots belong to the convenience store who also must be in on it as it was customer parking and I'm not sure how they could determine if i was in PO or gone to convenience store or perhaps I was going to both.... but like the other guy the staff at the towing company the owner of the towing co and the convenience store were obviously quite impressed with their haul and yes it cost me $500.00 to get my car out also... I complained to the local member as the parking was not able to be distinguished from the PO parking they surely agreed after checking it out but did they do anything about it NO! We live around here and yes the whole parking thing is a nightmare someone should treat those people to some of their own medicine.

The parking is next level horrific ! The attendants on duty are treading a fine line when it comes to harassment & plain abuse. I’ve unfortunately had several run ins with “man with umbrella” it’s absolutely disgusting in the way paying customers of the street are treated. I believe there is some kind of racket going too as other people here have stated. It may be the case they are simply jealous they can’t afford any of the gorgeous cars that need a park here.

This is where you want to go to get brands you can't buy in Queen Street. very boutiquey and fabulous clothes and giftware. Pricey with exceptional quality. Well worth a couple of hours strolling

Stayed at the Calile Hotel recently so the James Street Precinct is right at the front door. There are so many places to browse and if you are a hotel guest, many of the retailers offer a discount. There are very many fashion retailers (Seed, Bec&Bridge, Carla Zampatti, to name a few) as well as homewares stores (Wheel & Barrow, Pottery Barn), quite a few eateries (Harveys, Chow House, Spoon and a Sushi Restaurant) and of course the Markets.

The Market has limited stock but it is top of the range produce (bread, fruit, cheese, juice etc). We had been out for a big lunch one day so shopped here for bread, cheese and grapes for a picnic dinner in our room. There is also a small David Jones store.

Great place to browse but hang on to your credit card!!

What a lovely night we had. Just the two of us for our 45th wedding anniversary. The place was very busy with after work Christmas get-togethers. We enjoyed a drink poolside on a hot evening away from the crowded bar. Very relaxing. The dining experience was delightful with a friendly and charming young lady in attendance She was very knowledgeable about our food choice which was the middle sized banquet. Too much for our appetites so a doggy bag was offered with everything we would have eaten if we could. No embarrassment. The service was very friendly. The food was delicious (some a little salty for my taste, but that’s just me). Over all a delight experience. Will definitely be returning. Loved it!!
