- ItchyFeetCamarillo, California11,328 contributionsNice walk close to and around the riverThese botanical gardens are on a peninsula that is surrounded by the winding Brisbane river but after seeing the Roma Street Parkland Botanical Garden, I think that one is much better. There are more flowers, more water features, and I saw more birdlife at the other location. This is a nice area to walk along the river, and to see some plans and birdss. It seems to be popular with locals to hang out on an afternoon.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- catkid3Victoria, Australia156 contributionsBeautiful greenery in CBDA wonderful greenery area right in the heart of the CBD. Definitely recommend visiting the illuminated Fairy Trees at the south end of the park after sunset as they make for some stunning photos. Most floral displays were full and healthy but a handful looked like they needed some TLC. Be aware that there are only a couple of toilets available and it can be an effort to find one if you get caught out!Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 27, 2023

- Mike ABalingup, Australia96 contributionsGorgeous Garden TimeWhat a gorgeously beautiful and relaxing haven in the middle of the city. We loved whiling away a few hours here in between accommodation changes enjoying a beautiful coffee and muffin at Bear Bones where we met the amazing photographer and bird watcher Patricia Woods. We learnt so much in a short time. The Gardens are a credit to all who work there and to the City of Brisbane for their support. Bravo and Thank You. - avrilritchieDundee, United Kingdom304 contributionsPeaceful place.A peaceful haven right in the centre of the city. Not at its best when we visited - a lot of maintenance needing done and the borders past their best. That said there were lots of different areas with plenty to see and admire and a great place for walking / sitting. We are avid gardeners and enjoyed our time here. We would like to see it at other times of year. Too many cyclists / electric scooter riders going far too fast - need to be stopped as they are spoiling the ambience.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 26, 2024

One of the best things to do when your in Brisbane and between this and South Bank parklands, the best place to go for a walk. Not as big as it’s botanical garden counterparts in Sydney, Melbourne or the colossal in Perth, but spectacular nevertheless. Which is not necessarily a bad thing because you can see everything that is on offer in under an hour or less.
There’s a children’s playground, one cafe and the gardens is next to the river which provides great viewing of Kangaroo Point and its cliffs.

The origins of the gardens date to 1828 when they were established as a food source for the early penal colony. In 1855 the City Botanic Gardens officially opened with many varieties of tropical fruit trees and plants introduced and ornamental plantings to provide recreation areas. We took the self-guided walk trail, well, most of it through Weeping Fig Avenue, Bamboo Grove, Palms & Fig Trees, Lagoon & Fern Island, the ornamental ponds and other areas and then arrived at the pathway along the riverbank and exiting at Albert Street entrance. I consider the gardens to be more passive than Roma Parklands or Mount Coot-tha but that in no way diminished our enjoyment of the vegetation and facilities.

Our hotel stay in Albert St Brisbane was only a few minutes walk to the City Botanic Gardens & walked around on a few occasions. Beautiful manicured gardens with a variety of different plants & magnificent trees. A few unusual statues & relaxing water features along the way + to the side of the park old parliament house.
The Gardens are highly recommended to visit for all ages.

Very Well maintained gardens, several precints in the one area, bordering the Brisbane River and edge of the city. The Duck pond is quite large with plenty of turtles and Lizards roaming its edge.
Nice little markets on Sundays, inside the city gates end - perfect for a breakfast or lunch picnic date, a range of food stalls, coffee and juice tents and a Gin tasting tent to cap it off.
There is also a proud little display of 'dinner plate' size Hibiscus flower's, over near the rivers edge, towards the children's adventure playground.

We were a little disappointed with the Botanic gardens - but to be fair we were comparing to Roma Parkland. Situated at the opposite end of Brisbane, lots of family areas and a nice walk along the river, the gardens also have a small cafe with public toilets behind. Worth a visit just to see some of the unusual trees in the gardens. Also close to the Eagle street pier area by walking further down the river.

Lovely parkland near the CBD for a walk, picnic, relaxing...... Nice path along the Brisbane River. Various garden theme areas, including rainforest, palm grove, bamboo grove, formal flower garden, the lagoons, many open lawn areas. Some plants are labelled, but it would be good to see more labels on interesting plants for those interested in botany and gardens. For a more thorough large botanic garden visit the Brisbane Botanic Gardens - Mount Coot-tha (public bus available from city).
The City Garden has an information kiosk and café. Go for a stroll.

When in Brisbane make sure you put at least 2 hours aside to walk around and in these gardens. Perched on a peninsular surrounded by water and city skyscrapers its a calm from the noise of the city. The trees are spectacular and the variety of plants is huge and very different for a Brit visiting.

The first time I ever visited Brisbane, I found that these gardens were located just about opposite my hotel. Utterly delightful to stroll in them, a wide range of plants, beautifully maintained, and edging onto the river.
Tranquil, cool and full of oxygen: every city needs more like this.

You can sit nearly anywhere. But I believe there may be some tables overlooking the river.
