A peaceful haven looking over the city from about 7kms distance. Several lovely walks are marked in the gardens and there is a good cafe and gift shop at the entrance.

We walked through here on the way back to our hotel one afternoon. It is a beautiful peaceful location despite being so close to the CBD. The gardens are well laid out with a variety of different plants and trees as well as some large open grass spaces. The whole place was well maintained and a good place to stroll... More

Spectacular gardens and views...amazed with some of the plants they house and their age and size! Enjoyed a morning walk around the gardens with my mum and took lots of photos of unusual plants, the childrens treasure hunt is a cute addition. Would like to come back to the Planetarium when I get a chance

We did family photos in this setting and did not get any strange looks. It is so beautiful everyone just accepts that this is the spot to do photos, picnics, relax, burn up toddler and kiddy energy, feed the ducks, chill with a loved one, oh - and of course, check out the plants! Great amount of information. Personally we... More

This botanic garden was a pleasant surprise as it offered so many unexpected (and good) botany whilst maintaining it at a managed area suitable for a leisurely afternoon stroll. Key interesting areas including the various cacti, bonsai, Japanese garden, local fauna, etc. Watch out for the local lizards near the pond!

Just perfect. The gardens are well manicured and you can tell are looked after daily. Lots of spots to just relax and enjoy your surroundings. Would be perfect for a picnic and relaxing day.

The Mt. Cootha Botanical garden is a delight to visit and offers wonderful walks and an excellent layout thanks to a brilliant curator, Ross McKinnon, under whose stewardship the gardens blossomed and added numerous features for the enjoyment and appreciation of a grateful and faithful public.Beautiful places like the Japanese garden should not be missed.

We went to see the Japanese themed production on the stage. Was great to see their music and art in a natural environment. Kids love wandering around and trying to get lost while also trying to pronounce some of plant species names. Such a fun place but parking can be a massive challenge when events are on. Especially when multiple... More
