The ruins meant little to me until I read the history. The building dates to 1883 and used for civil purposes until occupied by the navy during the war and afterwards by Museum and Art Galleries Board. After Cyclone Tracy vented her fury on the city, the building suffered such extreme damage that it was not rebuilt but later developed as public open space and a venue for performing arts. Worth the detour to view and then cross the road to view Christ Church Cathedral.

Visited on Monday 1st May. Not a lot to see but it's good that they have retained what was left after Cyclone Tracy destroyed it.

These ruins, are well maintained and renovated. Good signage telling the history of the building and how it was damaged. We walked past so stopped for a look.

Nothing really to see (just the remnants of two walls that survived the destruction of Cyclone Tracy in 1974). No need to go out of your way to see, but if in the area, have a quick look. The history of the building is interesing.

Easy to view in the historic part of Darwin. Like the Cathedral across the road this was devastated in the 1974 Cyclone. A decision was made to stabilise the ruins to leave as a memorial - buildings around it were rebuilt or remodelled.

Must see while in Darwin. Historical location near Tourism Top End. Only walls remain after WW2 bombing.

The renovated remains of the old town hall are nicely preserved and are a permanent monument to the infamous 1974 cyclone that destroyed parts of the city.

A great reminder of the effects of cyclone Tracy to our old iconic buildings. It has not been restored rather left in tact for all to see.

I guess it has been kept mainly for nostalgic reasons but there is very little left of the town hall - just the remnants of some stone walls set in a pleasant garden, which hardly seem worth keeping. Don't go out of your way to find it!

Really, you just pass this ruin on the way to the mall. Interesting to see and to read about. Quite small for a public building. In pristine gardens
