The boat trip out to Bathurst with SeaLink was fine. Unfortunately the tour itself was not good. The driver was abrupt, the tour guide was new so did not have much useful information. However, the cultural talk and smoke ceremony was good and the presenters...More

After a two hour ferry trip we arrived at Bathurst Island where we were greeted by a traditional welcoming dance, a smoking ceremony and a display of the local ladies painting and weaving. After a morning tea of the best damper I have ever tasted...More

Trev and Ben were terrific, great insight into aboriginal culture on tiwi. Loved the stories, great simple lunch, plenty of food. Enjoyed the aboriginal dance and smoking ceremony. The community was very welcoming of questions and giving information. A very special place.

During school holidays quite a few of the local elders have gone bush with their families; so not all of our expected tour activities fully happened. 5 hours on the ferry also detracts from the day as does the litter across the township. The local...More

If you visit Darwin spend a day on the Tiwi Islands. There is an art history tour that is well worth the cost. The islanders perform a welcome to country and explain their cultural history. They demonstrate screen printing of their cultural designs and assist...More

The has to be the biggest highlight of our time in Darwin going on an all day cruise on the ferry to the Tiwi Islands. It was so enlightening as their culture is completely different to the mainland, no didgeridoos or boomerangs. We were taken...More

It was a smooth crossing when we did it. There is some open water but generally you would be protected by Bathurst Island I would think. There is no jetty. The boat runs up onto the beach and you disembark there.
