This national park was amazing but please wear long sleeves and spray insect repellant as there is signage saying to do so for good reason, we came out and could feel the midges biting us, the next day we flared up. It’s a great stop over though, with so much thorough history where you can walk into different bunkers to read some history and the views from the lookout were awesome. There is a lot of MTB tracks and walking tracks to enjoy and find hidden places.

We took a taxi from Darwin to the park expecting staff to be on duty to assist with anything we may need, for example how to get back to Darwin, and get information about what was in the park. The park gate had been opened and we walked a couple of hundred yards where there was an exhibition of WW2 munitions but not a soul was about. We continued to through the park to a picnic area and it seemed that was that. Plenty of trees and termite hills and a nice view of Darwin across the bay but little else. Fortunately we bumped into a cyclist who told us we wouldn't get public transport back into Darwin but he offered and we accepted his offer of a lift back into town (in his car and not on the back of his bike). I'm not sure id we missed anything while we were there but it would have been nice to at least had the opportunity to speak to a Ranger.

A lot of walking required, early morning or late afternoon is best. Beautiful and varied with historic cottage. Free Campari.

we were here on 3 April. It was very unkempt with long grass that has spikey seeds which would lodge themselves in our pant legs.
The view was pretty much covered by overgrowth.
Benches coverdd in ants.
The bbqs turned green but 30 mins pater were still cold to the touch.
It might be better in the dry, bit we are unlikely to come back and find out.

We were on a day tour and this was an excellent area to visit. We saw the fuel storage sheds and one has a great display of war memorabilia.

We opted to travel independently and ventured off road and were rewarded with quiet camp sites, still peaceful nights and still got good shower facilities. The habitat is quite extraordinary. Just remember this is a dry community so if you like a nightcap make sure you bring your own with you!

It's hot nd quite boring here. The view of Darwin city is just ok, but there is little else to see. One of the huts is open but the exhibit is dull and tire. Oh and watch out if you decide to take a stroll a friends car was broken into and they only left it for about five minutes!

Like several national parks in the Northern Territories. the entry to the Charles Darwin park is free and access is on a sealed road. One of the main attractions close to the entry is a storage area used for armaments during the Second World War. There are clear and concise pictorial displays explaining how life was in this location.
Farther into the park is an extensive picnic and BBQ area with toilet facilities and a viewing platform for a great view over the harbour to the downtown Darwin area. In addition there are several other nearby locations connected with World War 2

Saw the military bunkers here as part of the WWII tour/cruise. Very intriguing. Would have loved to have had the time to explore more on our own.

Charles Darwin National Park has an amazing amount of history from WWII about Japan bombing Darwin which was close to an invasion. Loads of great reading and items to see in camouflaged bunkers. At the top is s beautiful garden with outdoor seating which is overlooking Darwin. Didn’t go there in the night, but I would presume there would be spectacular night scenes for photography. BUT watch out for the ‘Midgees’ - microscopic little insects that give a nasty nip. You can’t see them, only fell the itch afterwards - use Bug spray before going.
