    Must do
This is the most visited event in darwin annually for a reason. from the variety of amazing food, ranging from thai, malaysian, american, mexican, and of course australian, and then some; Including some unique options like croc, and kangaroo, you can find just about anything you would want to eat here at the markets. There are plenty of booths selling local jerky, clothing, goods and services, for example, you can get a quick massage, or buy some locally made jerky, maybe get your palm read by a psychic, or just walk around and enoy the family friendly atmoshphere. You can find authentic aboriginal art, boomerangs, didgeridoos, croc leather goods, and jewelry. This is a must do for a visiting tourist or backpacker. and then after you bought yourself a crocodile vest, had some laksa and a kangaroo burger, seen a whip demonstration, listened to some digeredoo music, and had some mini pancakes for dessert, you can sit down on the beach and watch an amazing sunset over the ocean with music and firedancers performing all around you. Do yourself a favor and do this if your in the area during the dry season.

    Beautiful Sunset with great food
We attended on the night of the Mindil beach markets which had food from every corner of the world. After looking at all the options, we decided on Sri Lanka beef curry dishes. As we live on the Australian east coast we do not experience sunsets over the ocean but only sunrises. See the sunset over the ocean was quite extraordinary with the many colours as the sun disappeared over the horizon.

    Must do. Enjoy the sunset.
Like so many, we visited the Mindil Beach Markets then headed onto the beach to watch the sunset. It was incredible and made me realise how seldom we slow like to take pleasure in the simple things - like a glorious sunset over the water. The kids loved finding heaps of hermit crabs and when the sun did finally set there was a gentle round of applause from the crowd. Magic.

Grab your camera and grab a spot to get the best shots of the amazing sunsets on Mindil Beach. Or just grab some food from one of teh market stalls and sit back to watch while you eat. On market days (Sun and Thurs from 5 -9 pm), the place does get crowded, but there are sunsets every day. There is a large parking lot, if you are driving, or take the bus from Darwin. Make sure you know what time the last bus returns or you will have to take a cab. Also, check out what time sunset occurs, so you do not miss it!

We're so glad we arranged to catch up with a friend here while we were traveling around Australia.

I'd actually never heard of this market, but was I surprised.
So much to see, do and eat!

We really enjoyed watching the sunset here and the stall holder's were so welcoming and happy.

If you haven't been here yet, put it on your list of things to do, you won't regret it.

Our family (kids aged 9 and 13) thoroughly enjoyed the market. We arrived a little before 4pm, I had a Thai massage, then we wandered the stalls and all chose something different from the delish food trucks and sat listening to the live music. We then wandered up to the infinity pool at the casino resort and enjoyed a couple drinks on the deck while the kiddos swam in the pool and we watched the sun set.

Absolutely cracking way to spend the evening, must do! We’d definitely do the same thing again, it was wonderful.

Despite all the rave reviews this is really not that exciting. Many food stalls, a few vendors of assorted tat. Lots of "musicians", read aboriginals banging sticks to beg for money. I found that part a little depressing actually. I would hope a country as rich as Australia could do better for these people. Those food items we did try were quite good. We actually flew into Darwin early so my wife could experience Mindil Beach and she liked it. Sunset is spectacular as you would expect in the tropics. I think this is a special place in Darwin because there is just not that much to do in Darwin.

We visited on the Saturday market night, busy, busy, busy!
Mainly food stall, so there is lots of delicious food to choose from, remember not to eat before visiting. There are also other stalls including some interesting crafts to be found as well.
For looking at sunsets it may be better to visit on non market nights as the crowds make viewing a little difficult.

We walked onto the beach with our dogs at about 4.30pm. The sand was clean. The beach was almost empty. There were lifesavers but they were not busy. The surf was up. Not quite Sydney standards though. Maybe 15cm waves. The water was very warm.

The view extends to the horizon so it is a lovely spot to watch the sun set into the sea.

Mindil Markets are not as great as I remember them years ago but there are plenty of different food stalls to satisfy everyone.
There's also a few stalls for shopping but ultimately everyone comes for the sunsets which like anywhere the perfect day can be awesome.
There was also a fire dancer to keep you occupied for half an hour.

Every brochure etc raves about this - we expected food something like a Singapore hawker market from the publicity. In fact was a rather predictable selection of "crafts" and very average food (most of it not very 'exotic') that you have to eat from polystyrene containers shoulder to shoulder on the beach...However the sunset did not disappoint.
.Believe we made a mistake going on Sunday which was uncomfortable busy. Weeknights apparently better.
