Fantastic gardens and amazing tree house for kids!!
Fantastic gardens with a great display of plants. Some sections closed however it was at the end of the wet season so some areas quite wet and needing some attention. However, still worth a walk around!! Fantastic play area for kids too, shame I’m about older as it looked to be an amazing tree house!!

Majestic trees, with lovely long paths to take you on an amazing adventure.
Amazing park, with impressive trees and flowers. We loved the boab grove with the variety and different flower forms. There were three weddings happening at the time we were there. Great photo opportunities everywhere. It was a lovely afternoon stroll and I would recommend it to everyone visiting Darwin.

    A heaven for tropical plants
We enjoyed strolling along the well laid out path ways some going through attractively landscaped areas and some providing access to rain forest and waterfall within the park. The most attractive sectors in our opinion were the African Madagascar garden where the baobab trees took a centre stage and the area with water features and fountains with the jets. Crocodile sculpture was a beautiful piece of art with a huge fish I believe a Barramundi in its mouth. On the Rainforest rugged trail, we spotted a Orange footed Scrub fowl. Visitors centre was well kept and maintained and had important amenities for our use. George Brown Botanical Gardens was different to many other Botanical gardens we have visited so far in Australia due to its dominant tropical vegetation including palms and the balmy micro climate.

This is a fabulous experience over the 42 ha of beautifully maintained tropical Gardens. The hop on hop off bus stops right outside the Botanical Gardens. It’s free to enter the Gardens and has a fabulous cafe at the entrance, (Eva’s Cafe). The information centre has a great map and small gift shop. Best time to visit would be early morning before the heat or late in the afternoon.
Allow 2hrs and time for a coffee at the cafe.
Great for children.
Dog are allowed in certain areas however need to be well trained.
Playgrounds and community garden also on site.
Fantastic use of City space.

These Gardens are worth a visit and you should allow one to two hours to see most of it. As per the map there is a variety of mostly tropical plants, and a few with flowers. Bring a hat on a hot day as some paths have little shade.
The Gardens are easily accessible by buses from the city, and the buses come about every 30 minutes.
There is also a nearby Cafe.

After a great breakfast on the cafe verandah, we really enjoyed walking only 20 metres or so to view water spouts and stunning botanical feature gardens. Simple yet so effective with a cute bridge to walk over as well. Really pleasant

I’ve seen a few city Botanical Gardens in my time, a lot of the wonderful, so it’s hard when you come across Gardens which aren’t necessarily bad, but are just average. That’s how I felt about the Darwin Botanical Gardens. Some areas did seem a bit unkempt and I’m need of some TLC and it was hard to find your way around due to inadequate signage. The best parts for me where the Africa/Madagascar Garden (fantastic boabab and cacti display) & Heritage Lawn which made the journey worthwhile.

Friends suggested we go for a walk through the Botanical Gardens as I had not visited there for some time. I was very impressed with the new croc sculpture, many hours I should imagine had been spent making it. The relocated baobabs in their new garden looked impressive. It was peaceful wandering through the well-kept pathways. I would like to see more trees named as there were only a few trees with names. Also maybe add the age of the trees if known.

The staff do an excellent job in maintaining the grounds. Walked into the visitors centre which was new to me. Has a very impressive display on the history of the gardens. The lady at the shop was very friendly and inviting.

Lastly had a coffee from Eva’s café and sat on rocks near a bridge. A very enjoyable morning.

Bit disappointed with the upkeep of these gardens compared to most other capital cities. Ponds were filthy. Lots of debris lying around. The waterfall was small. Very hot and lot in the open. Lots of parks around the city seem to be a lot better maintained which is a shame.

We arrived at 3 PM and unfortunately the café was closed at that time. There was a lovely fountain nearby which also ceased functioning about the same time. We walk to the visitor centre which had no staff or maps apart from those on boards. Most of the plants weren't labelled and the signposts not clear in directing you and many areas were in disrepair. We were interested in the tropical rainforest and the map showed a circular route through the forest but in fact it was only a short boardwalk of about 20 m going through the rainforest. On our way out we did find a collection of Boab trees from different countries which was very interesting. Some reviews were more positive. Perhaps the gardens were in better repair or they were on a tour with a guide.

Can easily spend a few hours wandering around the gardens. Whilst there wasn’t heaps of flowers when I visited, it was still a pretty place with a variety of plants. Lots of paths so can get a bit lost which isn’t a bad thing maybe. Highly recommend the tropical juice from the cafe - probably the best I’ve ever had!

Visited as part of a city tour- in a sense that was a shame as we did not have very long to see what is huge area. The little bit we saw was great and we are trying to see if we can find a few hours extra to go back and explore.

Beautifully kept and needless to say in this climate, lush
