The lake is very beautiful with a sense of tranquillity and laidback-ness. Being a lake in Darwin means the surrounding area is somehow practical for a family or friends picnic only during dry season. You can try your luck in wet season but heavy cloud of biting insects, hot and humid weather and high chance of rainfall will all slim... More

Humidity and heat make DARWIN the backyard-pool capital of Australia. No doubt the ocean’s CROCS and STINGERS (latter mainly wet season) contribute. They certainly contribute to the lack of big outdoor spaces for people** wishing to swim and splash around. **I get the impression Darwin residents are not too fazed by the threat of crocs on open beaches. Maybe the... More

Lake Alexander is nestled behind Vesty's beach and is on the road to a few other attractions. Its a long walk from Darwin city, along the walking track, better to access by bicycle or car. Able to find some nice shady trees, there is a toilet block close by and a covered in playground area for the kids. It is... More

Not sure about being "safe" from crocs. As it is just across the road from the sea. Crocs can walk. There were some locals there enjoying the water.

Provides an alternative to swimming in the sea with sandy beaches and parkland to lie around in. Fresh water showers available. Part of the East Point Reserve, with wallabys etc.

No crocs here this is man made and you can swim. A lovely place for a family picnic. Lots of wild life - wallabies and birds. Beautiful views.

We just walked in this area for a short visit, but I wished that we had more time to swim. It is a man made lake with no crocs ! So swimming is easy. It is a pleasant spot for a picnic, and children would love it. Toilets, shade and easy parking.
