I wanted to hire a bike for my wife and kids in Darwin. No-one seemed really interested or wanted to charge a fortune. Ouch!
Found out on the Tousist information kiosk that the Barramundi Lodge does really cheap bike hire.
Paid them a visit. Phil and Paula were awesome. The gave the kids free bikes and helmets too. They were absolutely brilliant.
Bikes for only $10 per day. No fuss - no hidden costs. Good bikes and great service.
We decided to stay at the Barramundi lodge after that as Darwin service standards are really poor in the Budget market (We had a horrible stay in a cramped city Motel next to the nightclubs). Great rooms and facilities too. kids loved the pool.
Seriously, if you want a decent bike at a super cheap price to see the great sites of darwin - contact them first. Or you can book through the tourism office near parliament house.

Thanks Paula - coming back in October!!!

There is also a motorbike and bicycle rental shop at 9, Daly Street. It's a bit cheaper. And the bikes are good.

Excellent, easy and convenient way to get around Darwin. Spinway have got bikes at convenient locations around Darwin, which you can hire for a period of time which suits you. Unfortunately they are expensive and not exactly convenient if you want to hire it for 48hours as you are paying fort it when you are asleep! It would be nicer if they offered different options of 8hours and 12 hours as well

Darwin is the perfect city to hire a bike and ride around to investigate the town. Almost perfectly flat and a compact city, you can easily cover the entire town in a morning and get to know the lay out quickly. Darwin bike hire is at the back of the Mantra on the Esplanade and easily accessed from Mitchel Street near Coles by going through the food arcade nearby...
I just about cried when I had to take my bike back! I only used the simple 1, 2, 3 gears so evena beginner will be confident and happy on one of these well maintained bikes
You can ride along the bike paths on Esplanade to Cullen Bay (a must see), Mindil Beach and Fannie Bay. There are bike paths everywhere but the road traffic is so light it is absolutely no worries on the road. Go to the top of Smith Street and the bike fitted easily into the whizz bang lifts that take you to the amazing waterfront, wave pool, pool, lawns, restaurants. I can't wait to go back to Darwin and get another bike to cruise around each day. Around $120 for a week.

We went here to hire bikes and the owner told us that she hasn't hired out bikes for 4 years! Of course we were disappointed as we had walked quite a distance in the heat. The owner was very lovely and told us to go to the bike hire shop in Daly Street, which we did and were extremely happy with them.

I hired a bike from one of the spinway stands which was mechanically sound and perfect for riding around Darwin. When I got a flat tyre though they were not so helpful. They said it was my fault and that I must have run over something. They told me I would have to pay $20 for them to collect me. When I argued this was probably not fair the only response was “it’s in the terms and conditions “.

The Darwin Bike Hire listed has not existed for 4 years! The street bikes are not for everyone. If you want to hire a REAL bike got to The Scooter Shop (8941 2434) on Stuart Highway.Dave is very helpful and the rates are fair and better than using credit cards for inferior bikes.

It is getting a bit hot in Darwin, but we decided to get up early and hire the bikes for 4 hours. We would rather have had a 2 hour option, but in the end, we only returned our bikes 10 minutes early. We bikes around the city. Found some breakfast and bikes some more. We especially loved biking around East point. We were very impressed at Darwin’s friendly biking trails. They were everywhere. If we took a wrong turn, it didn’t matter. We were never without a path.

Given in Adelaide you can get a share bike for free or in Melbourne for around $50odd you can get access to share bikes for a year, paying $44 for 3 hours is seriously overpriced for what it is. Aside from that, the bikes are easy to access and do provide a great way to explore Darwin.
