This is a special tour that only operates on the full moon as this is when the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. It is also the time when the eggs hatch and the baby turtles make a dash to the sea. We were lucky enough to see both things happen. This is a professional run operation with a... More

This was one of the real highlights of our holiday in the Northern Territory. We set off from Stokes Hill Wharf with Sea Darwin on our Turtle Tracks adventure with 21 other travellers and a crew of 3 (the skipper - Jim, and 2 volunteers - Betty and Ella - with the turtle monitoring program that is conducted at Bare... The staff were very friendly. One brand of beer only in a can. You have no choice, the fish was battered within an inch of its life, leaving us very bloated. If you've been on other sunset cruises this will be a disappointment because there's not really much to see.

Heading 50kms off the coast of Darwin to Bare Sand Island (added bonus was seeing the Darwin coast line on the way out there), this tour exceeded my expectations by far. Arriving just before sunset we got to talk to the researchers who luckily were on the island at the same time - even got to hold a baby turtle!... More

OMG best thing I've ever done, to see these animals in the wild laying their eggs was just breathtaking. The hatchlings were so cute I wanted to take one home... Boat trip was smooth sailing & the food was good. A great hands on adventurous experience.

Relaxing fast boat ride to Bare Sand Island. Walk on a beautiful beach, lovely sunset while looking for turtle tracks. Watching the mother turtle laying eggs. And surprise encounter with more turtles on the way back (really close if you are lucky). Baby turtle "cuddling". Knowledgable staff. Nice dinner on the boat on way back in dark. A bit touristy...
